Tartaglia was one of the first few limited characters released in Genshin Impact alongside his Weekly Boss fight that can be unlocked during the Liyue storyline. Hoyoverse has released a lot of new characters after him, but the beloved Harbinger has stood the test of time, staying on the top when it comes to the most fun characters.

The huge world of Teyvat is covered with dangerous enemies that need to be defeated if you want to unlock some treasure or secret areas. Tartaglia is one of the best candidates for exploration, which is a big part of the game. He's also one of the most flexible and unique characters in the game.

On-Field Main DPS Tartaglia Build

Genshin Impact Tartaglia Walking Toward Liyue Main Door
  • Weapons - Polar Star, Blackcliff Warbow, Rust
  • Artifact Sets - Heart of Depth, Echoes of an Offering

One look at his kit and you'll realize Tartaglia's intended playstyle by the developers. When it comes to a character's abilities, Hoyoverse usually goes for a time-limited DPS play style where the main damage dealers get buffed in some way whenever they take the field, and they deal a lot of damage until the buff lasts.

While this is true for Tartaglia, his kit allows you to keep him on the field long enough to defeat most of the enemies in the game. This makes him one of the few damage dealers who can have a build to stay on the field all the time. Since the game is heavily dependent on reactions and team support, you'll still need to find the correct party.

It's also important to not get carried away when you're using Tartaglia. While his Elemental Skill can last for a long time dealing a ton of damage, it's also important to stay alert and not use it for longer than 30 seconds.

If the skill is active for over 30 seconds, the game forces it to end. This increases the cooldown of this Skill massively, and it takes a long time to get this Skill back, which makes Tartaglia useless for the duration.

The most consistent artifact set for this build is Heart of Depth. You can farm it from the Peak of Vindagnyr domain at the top of Dragonspine or use the Strongbox function to exchange some bad artifacts for a chance to get decent Heart of Depth pieces. Here's what the bonuses from this set will give you:

Artifact Set Bonus

Effect

Two-Piece Bonus

The user of this set gets a 15 percent Hydro DMG Bonus. Being a Hydro vision holder, this buff is perfect for Tartaglia.

Four-Piece Bonus

Increases the Normal and Charged attack damage by 30 percent after using an Elemental Skill. Tartaglia's attacks in the melee stance are also considered Normal and Charged attacks, utilizing this buff.

The boost to Normal and Charged attacks from this set also eases the pressure of getting good artifacts. If you want to get a more dynamic artifact set, Echoes of an Offering can be a decent replacement. Since Tartaglia is a dynamic character with constant movement and ability usage, this artifact set might suit some people as well.

Echoes of an Offering artifact set has a chance of increasing one of your Normal attack's damage after attacking enemies with a Normal attack. If you get lucky, you can trigger this ability on almost every third attack done by Tartaglia.

The beloved Harbinger's weapon situation was dire when he was first released because he didn't have a good signature weapon. This was changed during his rerun with the addition of Polar Star, a bow that is good for almost every damage-dealing character in the game, and also a perfect addition to this build.

Apart from getting Crit Rate and a boost to your Elemental Skill and Burst damage, the wielder of this weapon can also get up to 48 percent ATK bonus. Although, Polar Star is a limited five-star weapon, and everyone can't have it. Blackcliff Warbow can be a decent replacement for the weapon.

You can also use Rust because of the Normal attack DMG boost and the ATK Percent given by that weapon. You will need to find a bunch of Crit Rate and DMG on your artifact stats while using this weapon.

Off-Field Reaction Support Tartaglia Build

Genshin Impact Tartaglia Gazing At A Leaf
  • Weapons - Elegy for the End, The Stringless, Windblume Ode
  • Artifact Set - Gilded Dreams

While an off-field build is possible for Tartaglia, it's unique and based on a certain situation. There are a few effects from Tartaglia's kit that come together and make this build possible:

Effect Name

Role In The Build

Never Ending

This is the first passive unlocked after upgrading Tartaglia, and it increases the duration of Riptide by eight seconds.

Sword of Torrents

When this passive is unlocked, you can apply the Riptide effect on the enemies by dealing a Crit hit with Normal and Charged attacks in your melee stance.

Riptide Burst

Whenever an enemy with the Riptide effect is defeated, they create an explosion dealing damage and applying Riptide to surrounding enemies.

Riptide Burst is an integral part of this build, so it's obvious that you need to defeat enemies for it to work. If you're fighting against two big enemies like Ruin Hunters at the same time, this build might not be that effective. On the other hand, if you're fighting against over ten Hilichurls at the same time, it'll be the best build for you.

Gilded Dreams is the perfect artifact set for this build since you're relying on Elemental Reactions. The set bonus gives Tartaglia a ton of Elemental Mastery if all of his party members have non-Hydro visions. Furthermore, Elegy for the End gives even more Elemental Mastery to Tartaglia and his party members.

You can use this build with a Pyro, Cryo, or Dendro character to trigger Vaporize, Freeze, or Bloom reactions respectively. Moreover, The Stringless and Windblume Ode can be replacement weapons if Elegy isn't available for you.

Windblume Ode is an exclusive weapon that could only be acquired during a limited-time event.

Artifact Stat Priority For Tartaglia

Sands

Talent Priority For Tartaglia

Genshin Impact Tartaglia Talent Screen

Most damage dealt by Tartaglia comes out of his Elemental Skill, making this talent the top priority among the three. With the amount of damage you can expect from this skill, you can easily level it up to the maximum level by using a crown. Your Riptide Slash damage also increases with the level of this Skill.

Followed by that, Tartaglia's Elemental Burst has two stances and needs to be upgraded next. If you use the Burst when you're on the Bow stance, you'll get a portion of your Energy back. Moreover, using the melee stance Burst with the sixth constellation also helps his rotation massively.

Since the Elemental Skill has its own multipliers for Tartaglia's Normal and Charged attacks, you don't have to upgrade his Normal attack talent at all.

Tartaglia Constellations

Genshin Impact Tartaglia Faded In With His Constellation Figure

Among all the characters in Genshin Impact, Tartaglia is one of the best when it comes to constellations. While the character isn't reliant on them, his constellations give a significant damage boost in unique ways:

Constellation Number

Constellation Name

Effect

1

Foul Legacy: Tide Withholder

The cooldown of Tartaglia's Elemental Skill is decreased by 20 percent.

2

Foul Legacy: Understream

Defeating opponents with the Riptide effect generates four Elemental Particles for his Burst.

3

Abyssal Mayhem: Vortex of Turmoil

Increases the level of his Elemental Skill by three.

4

Abyssal Mayhem: Hydrospout

Releases a Riptide Slash or Riptide Flash effect every four seconds based on Tartaglia's current stance. This doesn't affect the cooldown and application of these effects from his base kit.

5

Havoc: Formless Blade

Increases the level of his Elemental Burst by three.

6

Havoc: Annihilation

Using your Elemental Burst in the melee stance resets the cooldown of the Elemental Skill. This effect only takes place after you exit the melee stance.
