Childe plays a central role in Genshin Impact's story during the Liyue chapter and is seen by many as a force of chaos. He is a 5-star hydro character with the unique ability to switch between using a bow, his main weapon, and a spear. Due to his unique combat style, he is highly sought after by players of Genshin Impact.

This is only reinforced further by the beloved boss fight between the Traveler and Childe, where the character had his actual personality exposed to the player. Despite how he acts, though, Childe is more complicated than just being a battle-loving Fatui member.

Updated March 21st, 2021 by Jessica Thomas: Tartaglia, or Childe as many players know him, is a pretty interesting character and the first Harbinger the player gets to fight. He isn't a textbook villain, and his story event helped shed some light on his seemingly dark personality. Childe loves his family more than anything, and despite the fact that he is trained to kill, he doesn't agree with the underhanded way the Fatui likes to go about things in Teyvat. There is a lot of information given about Tartaglia, and players can't help but want to learn more about him, especially since he seems to be interested in growing close to the Traveler.

12 Teucer Stresses Him Out

Teucer Visiting Childe in Genshin Impact

Teucer is Tartaglia's little brother, and some of his confidant spirit can be seen in Childe's story chapter. Teucer stows himself away on a ship to Liyue and then begins wandering the wilderness looking for his brother. When Childe finds out, he has a mini-panic attack for his brother's safety.

He then has to pretend to be a toy salesman for a day to cover up his involvement in the Fatui,

11 He Is Extremely Interested In Lumine/Aether

Tartaglia Being Affectionate

Childe doesn't exactly hide the fact that he wants to adventure with the Traveler. In fact, he straight out states it in his letters to his family. At the end of his story chapter, he also invites the Travelers to come home with him to visit his family sometime, which is pretty forward of him.

Childe seems to be incredibly interested in the Traveler and would make a good candidate for the hang out events.

10 He Was Skilled From A Young Age

Childe Genshin Impact

Childe was the youngest to ever become a Harbinger as he was only 18 when he earned the title. From his character story, though, you learn that Childe actually became a warrior at the age of 14 and had mastered most types of weapons by this age, striking fear into the heart of his opponent.

Childe loves honing his skill and has become a feared name throughout Teyvat.

9 He Doesn't Agree With The Fatui

While Childe is an important part of the Fatui, he doesn't really fit in with them. Childe dislikes the Fatui and their antagonistic nature. Even more so, the Fatui seem to feel the same way about Childe as he acts differently from the other Harbingers.

Although Childe does agree with the organization's ultimate vision of peace, he doesn't like some of the underhanded methods the Fatui use to get there.

8 He Loves Battle

Childe fighting

Childe lives his life with the pursuit of battle in mind. In fact, most of his dialogue and story revolves around the fact that he truly loves to fight. Childe wants nothing more than to find strong opponents and then work to defeat them. This is one of the reasons he fights the Traveler.

The best type of battle for Childe is one where he thinks he is going to die, as that is his peak level of happiness.

7 The Fatui Keep Him at a Distance

As mentioned above, Childe isn't exactly a fan of going along with the Fatui's plots, especially if it makes him look bad. The feeling is mutual, though, as the Fatui see Childe as both a useful ally and a true wild card. It is said that Childe causes chaos just about everywhere that he decides to travel.

Due to this, he is usually sent on missions that are far away from the homeland.

6 He Loves Ice Fishing

One of Childe's stranger hobbies comes from his childhood. Childe used to spend time with his father by going ice fishing, a sport that he has now become quite fond of in adulthood. Childe sees fishing as a test of patience and a way to meditate and become even stronger.

As you can guess from his skills on the battlefield, it's highly likely that Childe is able to catch a large quantity of fish.

5 He Adores His Siblings

While many players think that Childe is a cold sociopath, he actually has a kind side to him. One thing that Childe loves other than battle is his family, especially when it comes to his three young siblings, Tonia, Teucer, and Anthon. He even regularly sends presents for his sister's home along with letters.

Childe also seems to be affectionate towards his parents as he regularly sends herbs home to help his father.

4 Man of Many Names

Childe Story

The most confusing thing about this young man is his name. Mostly known as Childe in the English release, the name the character is meant to go by is Tartaglia. Childe is actually the Chinese word for a young nobleman, but due to translation errors, it seems like it's his actual name.

On top of the Childe and Tartaglia confusion, the character also has an actual name that he was born with, Ajax.

3 He Ran Away From Home

Childe seems to have always had the spirit of a troublemaker as he ran away from home at the age of 14 because he was bored. This led to him falling into another dimension where he was trained in combat for many months. When he emerged back in Teyvat, though, he learned that only three days had actually passed.

Due to this training, Childe was able to appear as if he had a natural ability for combat.

2 He Isn't A Picky Eater

One thing that Childe's dialogue reveals is just how easy to please he is, especially when it comes to food. Childe, unlike most characters, neither has a favorite or a least favorite dish. Instead, he lets the players know that it is best to eat what's in front of you and not be concerned with taste.

This is most likely due to the fact that Childe is often on the road and grew up in a harsh winter environment.

1 He Loves To Go Out

Childe, unlike the other Harbingers, doesn't mind stealing the limelight. He is known for going out to events and even getting involved in them when he gets bored, much like one would expect from his chaotic nature. This has led him to have more of a public profile than other Fatui members.

Childe seems to love exploring the world around him and doesn't much care for formalities.
