The highest honor in Genshin Impact isn't clearing Floor 12, Chamber 3 of the Spiral Abyss. No, it's actually staying as a free player until Adventure Rank 50+. Now that takes a special kind of fortitude (or thriftiness) in order to pull off, especially in the face of 5-star characters constantly getting released left and right. It's not easy being a free player in a free-to-play game.
That's why most players traverse the line between free and whale (high spender) categories. However, if you want to make the more affordable end of that spectrum proud, then some tips from established free-to-play veterans are in order. After all, these guys have resisted the temptations and have maximized their efficiency in the game in order to get the most out of Genshin Impact without spending anything.
10 Ignore The Standard And Weapon Banners
Genshin Impact usually has a total of four banners; the beginner, the featured, the weapon, and the standard banner. The last three always go on rotations but the one with the most value is the featured banner. They contain limited characters and also the same stuff you can get on the standard banner.
That makes the standard banner's value quite low. Meanwhile, the weapon banner has a chance of giving you good stuff that you might not even need, so it's high-risk but not high-reward. As for the beginner banner, why even think about that?
9 Don't Miss Commissions
Commissions are practically Genshin Impact's version of daily quests in MMORPG context. Except Commissions are actually more generous as they give players an opportunity to get Primogems.
Each commission gives 10 Primogems and completing them all gives another 20. That's 60 in total per day. Always do them, as well as any event that rains Primogems on the players. If they stay dedicated to Hoyolab's daily reward track though, they can get 20 Primogems per week or a total of 60 Primogems per month. It's not much but there are other rewards that can help with leveling and ascension. Plus it's all free.
6 Take Note Of Soft Pity

The Pity system in Genshin Impact should be a popular mechanic by now— too popular in fact, that it tends to overshadow Soft Pity. Soft Pity gets triggered starting with the 75th wish onward, whereupon each wish going forward from there adds increased chances of getting a 5-star.
This will add up to 100 percent by the 90th wish or until players get lucky with their 5-star. If free players want to save their Primogems or wishes, they can simply conserve their supply by wishing by one instead of by 10 once they get to their 75th wish.
5 Condense Any Resin You Can't Use
Resin is hard to come by in the late game especially once you start needing tons of artifacts to improve your main characters. There will also be some days when you can't make use of your original resin and they will waste away once they reached the 160-max limit.
In such cases, the game offers a chance to maximize them via Condensed Resin. That way, players are always accumulating resin while also having the Condensed ones to help them farm their artifacts or resources better. The catch is that it can't be used for bosses.
4 Save Your Starglitters
One by-product of wishing or getting 5-star characters or weapons, or even duplicates is the Masterless Starglitter along with the Masterless Stardust. The Stardust, you don't have to conserve but the Starglitter is more valuable.
That's because those allow you to obtain good 4-star weapons with Crit substats. More than that, Paimon's store also gives characters that cost Starglitters. In the future, who knows what else they might add to this store.
3 Save Your Fragile Resins For Late Game
Fragile Resins are like Condensed Resins except they're given for free. Since the game hands them out generously, you might think you can use them liberally, right? Wrong! Even whales conserve this resource. They're that important.
Save them up for when you get your coveted 5-star character or weapon and you need to level them up fast in the late game or if they need decent placeholder artifacts. You should never use these when you get bored with your lack of original resin below AR (Adventure Rank) 45.
2 Consider Re-Rolling If You're New
If you're just new to the game and haven't gotten past AR 10, you're in luck because doing this trick won't cost you much. Many players have taken to "re-rolling" or creating a new account for the sole purpose of trying to get as many 5-star characters as they can with their free first 10 beginner wishes.
From there, continuing as a free player is easier especially once you manage to snag your target 5-star characters. All it takes is getting to AR 7, which can be done in less than an hour. Rinse and repeat until you get the desired 5-star that will likely carry you to the endgame.
1 Patience And Restraint
If you're a free player out of thriftiness, then you certainly need this advice more than ever. Patience is what separates you from the whales (that and tons of disposable income, probably). Know that some limited characters will come back and you don't need to blow all your Primogems on risky pulls.
Saving up fragile resins is also a part of this as well as refraining from replenishing the original resin supply using Primogems. Being content with your current party even if they're Kaeya, Lisa, Amber, or the Traveler goes a long way, especially when it comes to controlling your finance.
