Apple has officially named Genshin Impact as the best iPhone game of 2020, awarding Mihoyo's critically-acclaimed RPG the first of what could potentially be several end-of-year accolades.
Genshin Impact may have only launched two months ago, but it has taken the world by storm ever since. Despite the fact we reckon Genshin Impact should have launched with mobile support, it raked in a whopping $250 million in its first month alone, making it one of the biggest mobile launches of all time across both iPhone and Android.
It's no wonder, then, that Apple's recently published App Store Best of 2020 list - posted on the official Apple blog - has awarded Genshin Impact the title of iPhone Game of the Year. iPad Game of the Year went to Riot's Legends of Runeterra, while Mac Game of the Year was awarded to Studio ZA/UM's Disco Elysium.
Genshin Impact shows no signs of slowing down, either. Even though there are certain elements of the game that players are currently unhappy with, people are still signing in as frequently as ever. For example, the current resin system might be a bit of a pain in the arse, but people are designing their own minigames to make the wait more bearable.
Oddly enough, the launch of the PS5 and Xbox Series X hasn't even seemed to slow Genshin Impact's momentum down - the game is reportedly still earning over $6 million a day, despite being totally free-to-play. While its gacha system is unforgiving, none of the characters are necessary for progression - there are no facets of the game that are completely pay-to-win.
Genshin Impact is currently playable on iPhone and Android (obviously), but it is also available for PC, PS4, and PS5. Strangely, it looks better on PS4 Pro than it does on PS5 when played at 1080p, due to the fact that the latter doesn't automatically supersample resolutions that low. That being said, you'll be able to see that Genshin Impact is vastly improved on PS5 if you've got the right setup for it.
