Genshin Impact’s first major content expansion has finally landed, and fans have been waiting for this one for a while. We’ve known that the game would receive the new Dragonspine region eventually, and now we can finally climb a really big mountain, freeze to death, and experience all the good stuff that Dragonspine is sure to introduce. But if you want to navigate the new area properly, you’ll need to see the map, which is actually a bit more unusual than you might expect.

Updated July 18th, by Kim Dailey: Genshin Impact's new region, Dragonspine has proved a frigid and deadly trek due to the new Sheer Cold debuff the arctic region introduced. To that end, the article has been refreshed to not only help players melt that obstinate magical ice obstruction, but also traverse Dragonspine's extreme climate without falling prey to a fatal case of frostbite. And just to make sure there's not a single question left unanswered we've pointed you in the direction of the region's Statue of The Seven, and Scarlet Quartz in detail.

As usual, you must visit a Statue Of The Seven in Genshin Impact’s Dragonspine region to unlock the map, but unlike all of the other regions we’ve visited that just pop the map open as soon as you interact with the statue, here the statue is frozen over with magical ice, and defrosting it so we can actually use it is a bit mysterious and never really explained.

Luckily we have dug up the answer to this conundrum and found how to melt the magical ice. You’ll want to keep this in mind because you’ll find similar blocks of ice around the Dragonspine region, and they can all be defrosted in the same way, so you can keep exploring. But before we can tackle the feat of melting all of the magical ice throughout Dragonspine, we must first prepare for the new dangers that are inherent with this frozen region.

How To Combat The Sheer Cold Effect

You won't survive long in Dragonspine without gearing up to combat the region's extreme climate. As long as you are using Scarlet Quartz, the crystal's buffs will ward off the "Sheer Cold" effect Dragonspine's climate inflicts. Unfortunately, it's not feasible to hop from vein to vein mining Scarlet Quartz to keep warm but, luckily, there are a number of other ways to keep your blood flowing.

  1. Maintaining proximity to a Fire Seelie.
  2. Maintaining proximity to a source of fire such as Torches and Bonfires.
  3. Maintaining proximity to the Statue of The Seven.
  4. Warp Points provide temporary relief.
  5. If you haven't yet, now's a good time to start investing in the Frostbearing Tree because you'll be wanting that Warming Bottle you can craft further along.
  6. If you've run out of every other option, your healer characters can always serve as a last defense by magically sustaining your party's health.

Locating The Statue Of The Seven In Dragonspine

Heading South out of Modstadt you'll find the Dragonspine Statue of The Seven standing a little ways off of the road after bridging the border into the new region. After locating the Statue Of The Seven hiding away on the Dragonspine mountainside, you arrive to discover you can’t actually do anything because of the magical ice encasing the statue.

Essentially, you’ll find this strange magical ice in several places around the Dragonspine region, often blocking your progress in mysterious ways, and no, Pyro characters can't simply throw fire and melt it away. Instead, you need to find Scarlet Quartz.

Scarlet Quartz

Scarlet Quartz is a new ore you can mine in Dragonspine, and they conveniently crop up near these magical ice obstructions. Naturally, that means there's a Scarlet Quartz vein not far from the Statue of The Seven. Turn your back to the statue and head back across the pathway by the gorge there. Head around this circular pit until you set sights on a red crystal cluster poking out of the earth on the far side.

Here's what you'll need to do.

  1. Mine the Scarlet Quartz Vein.
  2. Once you collect the Scarlet Quartz, a red aura swirl will appear around your character for a short period of time, meaning it's imperative to find a vein near your target.
  3. While you are imbued with this red aura, you’ll be able to slice straight through the ice no matter which character you’re using, finally enabling you to use the Statue Of The Seven and fill out your map of Teyvat.

This mysterious ice is all over the Dragonspine region, and if you want to make the most of everything that this new region has to offer, then you should make sure to collect Scarlet Quartz whenever possible and look out for these mysterious icy walls so you can tear them down and take whatever prizes they might be hiding.
