Genshin Impact has only been growing bigger and bigger every week. With millions of players and the recent release of Version 1.3 adding new quests, rewards, and the highly anticipated character, Xiao, buzz about the game never stops spreading across the internet.
Thankfully, neither do the memes. Wherever adventure may take the player, their companion, Paimon, is always by their side. Toddler sized and always floating by the Traveler, Paimon offers useful and sometimes hilarious insight into the game's story as events unfold. Some players may find her annoying, and others absolutely adore her. One thing everyone can agree on, however, is that Paimon is great for memes and jokes (and perhaps emergency food).

13 Emergency Food Eats Your Homework
Paimon is small, toddler-sized, and great to poke fun at. Sometimes it seems the Traveler is always seeking opportunities to tease Paimon, and it gets funnier the longer the gag goes on for.
In this interaction, the Traveler tries to sneak in without proper documentation. When asked about it, you're welcome to say that Paimon, the emergency food, ate the document.
12 Losing Your Pity Rate
The recent banner featuring Yoimiya was an alluring one. Not only did it offer the chance to summon Yoimiya, a pyro archer, it also featured the pint-sized ninja Sayu as a four-star featured character. Sayu is an incredibly powerful character, especially for a four-star, so a lot of players wanted her.
Unfortunately, the banner right after Yoimiya's is none other than the Raiden Shogun's banner. So if you tried rolling for Sayu and ended up getting Yoimiya, your pity rate would be back to zero and your chances of getting the Shogun would be severely reduced.
11 Paimon's Double Standards
A bit like the relationship between siblings, the relationship between Paimon and the Traveler, as well as Paimon and various other characters in Teyvat, swing between being sweet and polite all the way to being rude and crass.
This meme embodies that about Paimon. She's rude and mocks Venti and Xingqiu, for example. On the other hand, she's kind and considerate when the moment calls for it, and is especially supportive when it comes to the Traveler.
10 Mocked By Venti
When starting the game, players begin their adventure in the region of Mondstadt. They meet characters such as Lisa and Kaeya, and eventually the enigmatic bard, Venti. Venti is a bit of a curious character. He's a bard who loves to drink and also happens to be the Wind God, or Anemo Archon.
Venti is loved for being bold and lively. He's not afraid to mock others, especially those in positions of power or people he doesn't get along with. In the game, he mocks and mimics Paimon. Both characters make fun of each other, and it's pretty funny to see. In this meme, in particular, this Instagram artist, markarians.creatures, redraws a mocking scene with a perfect and hilarious expression for Venti.
9 I Love You...But I Hate You
It can't be understated just how divisive Paimon is as a character. The advice she gives is often obvious and not exactly helpful. Some fans aren't exactly fond of her high pitched voice, or the way she speaks in the third person. Maybe she talks too much, and the journey would be better without her around.
On the other hand, Paimon is doing her best. She is sometimes the only one with any sense, it seems. She is always supporting the Traveler and cheering them up. It's hard to not love her, and it's especially hard to be annoyed with her for too long.
8 Paimon And Venti's Insults
This screenshot of Jim from The Office perfectly describes how players feel throughout the Prologue quests of Genshin Impact when Paimon and Venti keep making fun of each other. It's just so fun to see it happen because their bickering is so well written and voiced.
What makes the mockery and insulting especially funny is that Paimon doesn't seem to act this way around most of the other characters, though she is a bit rude to Xingqiu as well. There's a certain type of personality that rubs her the wrong way, and Venti is one of those.
7 Best Friend, Or Emergency Food?
Near the start of the game, players travel with Paimon and first encounter Amber, one of the Knights of Favonius. Amber asks the player who they are and who the small, floating Paimon is. The player can pick from one of two dialogue options, and the second one is so unexpected that most players pick it. The first option is to say "we're friends" and the second is, amusingly, "emergency food."
This one line of dialogue sparked an onslaught of memes about Paimon being emergency food. The joke continues throughout the game, mentioned here and there for laughs.
6 Sheer Cold Or Burning Damage?
In a recent Genshin Impact update, a new area called Dragonspine was added, along with a story event called The Chalk Prince And The Dragon and playable character Albedo. The Dragonspine area is a snowy, mountainous region full of secrets and new mechanics.
One new mechanic that exists in Dragonspine is the Sheer Cold mechanic. When players are out exposed to the cold, Sheer Cold will begin accumulating. When it maxes out, players begin losing health rapidly. One of the only ways to decrease Sheer Cold is to stand near a fire. Often, that results in panicked and dying players getting burn damage and dying anyways.
5 How Many Slaps To Cook Paimon?
There's been a meme going around for some time now about how many times you would have to slap a chicken in order to cook it. A lot of numbers were crunched, math was done, and answers were found. However, the concept of actually being able to cook something simply by slapping it stuck around because of how absurd it seemed.
Riffing off the concept of Paimon being emergency food, this meme takes it a step further, combining Paimon with the meme about slapping chicken. How many slaps does it take to cook Paimon? Hypothetically speaking, of course.
4 "O Kawaii Koto"
This is a meme that only fans of both Genshin Impact and the anime Kaguya-sama: Love is War will understand. It's a bit obscure, but it's clever. In Love Is War, one of the main characters, Kaguya, often says "O kawaii koto" which translates to "How cute." In Genshin Impact, Paimon says to Venti at one point, "Ehete nanda yo" which translates to "What do you mean, 'hehe?'" when she is exasperated with Venti laughing off her questions.
The meme comes together when you realize that in Japanese, Paimon and Kaguya share a voice actor. Kaguya's head is combined with Paimon's body, making her small and diminutive, and their iconic phrases are combined. It's an amusing thing to think about.

3 She Protects, She Attacks
Another recent meme format that online users have been having fun with is this one, and it comes with a rhyming scheme. This meme shows off Paimon's many sides and moods, and perhaps, her many uses.
Paimon has a mind of her own and does get pretty annoying at times with her high pitched voice and talkativeness. However, she's always there to hype up the Traveler and cheer them on during their adventures across Teyvat. She protects the Traveler however she can, helps solve mysteries, and attacks people whose interests may not align with theirs through retorts and questions. If that isn't enough, then she also makes for a good snack, in case of emergencies.
2 Paimon, Emergency Food, What's The Difference?
A timeless meme trend that never seems to go out of style is a scene from The Office, where the character Pam shows two images and asks what the difference between them is, only to say to herself that they're the same picture. These memes are funny because they emphasize the often silly similarities between two things.
In this meme, the two things being called the same are Paimon and emergency food. Genshin Impact fans seem to never get tired of this joke, and Mihoyo knows that. Essentially, putting a picture of Paimon in place of food makes no difference. They're interchangeable, so they're the same thing.
1 Gently Hold Paimon
When all is said and done, these memes show that while Paimon may be divisive, there's a lot of character to her. The Genshin Impact experience would certainly be very different without her. Even if Paimon is annoying at times, she would be missed if she weren't around.
Maybe Paimon should be appreciated and cared for. She has some common sense, brings laughter to the story, and accompanies the Traveler through everything as they search for their sibling. Despite it all, she means well and the game just wouldn't be the same without her.
