Xiangling is a fun character who has just as much energy as the hydro idol Barbara. Xiangling is one of the free to play characters in Genshin Impact and is given out just for beating floor 3-3 of the Spiral Abyss. She is a four-star pyro polearm user, who many players have taken to using in battle. She is also legendary for exploration since she has been known to torpedo herself across the Teyvat sky.

She is currently one of the few spear users in the game, making her a popular choice for players who don't want to fight ranged or rely on swords.

Mastering Xiangling

Playing Xiangling feels like a mesh of the characters Zhongli and Amber. She is a quick attacking spear user that comes with her own cute mascot to throw out into battle. She can be used as a main DPS with the right build, but using her as a support with the right characters can create dangerous elemental reactions that will wipe your opponent off the field. Her constellations also support her being both a DPS and support character.

  • C1 - When hit by Guoba, enemies pyro resistance falls by 15% for six seconds.
  • C2 - On the final strike of Xiangling's normal attack, a status is put on the enemy that causes an AoE explosion after two seconds. This is able to deal 75% of Xianglings total attack power.
  • C3 - Pyronado level cap is increased by three.
  • C4 - Pyronado stays on the field for 40% longer.
  • C5 - Guoba level cap is increased by three.
  • C6 - When Pyronado is used, the entire party gets a 15% pyro damage boost.

Xiangling has one of the most versatile constellation layouts in the game. She can easily deal major damage when leading your party or can release her skill and burst to aid characters like Razor as they fight.

In general, Xiangling is a pretty easy character to control when using her normal attacks, and she is great for players who love speedy attacks over slower claymores.

Controlling the Field

Xiangling Liyue

When playing Xiangling, it's important to keep control of the field, especially when using  her popular teammate Guoba to deal pyro damage. Guoba can pack a punch, but only when he hits the enemy. Guoba does not turn or move towards the enemy. When he is thrown out, he will face in a single direction and begin spitting out fire after two seconds have passed. The fire is AoE, but enemies will need to close to Guoba in order to be hit.

This is one of the trickiest parts of playing as Xiangling as Guoba is a major part of her attack, but most enemies will roam outside of his range. To fix this, try using Amber's Baron Bunny or Ganyu's Lotus to attract enemies before sending out Guoba. This way, Xiangling can still deal normal damage without pulling them away from Guobas attack range.

For players who are in love with combo attacks, Xiangling is also the perfect choice. When placed with Fischl, the two characters can create the popular "Banjo-Kazooie" combo. To do this, though, players will need to attack enemies to one spot, send out Oz, and then send out Guoba. This will deal massive amounts of overload damage to enemies while giving Xiangling an opening for normal attacks or to heal up. This is especially effective when going against bosses.

Keep in mind that Guoba also drops a chili pepper when disappearing that increases pyro attacks by 10% for ten seconds.

The Perfect Party

Xiangling is another character that players will need to decide on a role for. She can play as both DPS or support but will have slightly different needs depending on her role in the party. To begin, here are some great choices for supporting a DPS Xiangling:

  • Fischl - Summons Oz to perform the famous "Banjo-Kazooie" combo attack.
  • Beidou - Summons Eels that circle characters and deal electro damage.
  • Xingqiu - Summons hydro swords that deal damage along with the on-field character.
  • Qiqi - Can heal while providing cryo damage to nearby opponents.
  • Barbara - Provides healing and can place the wet effect on enemies.
  • Ganyu - Can use her lotus to pull in enemies for Guoba and rain icicles that deal cryo damage when bursting.
  • Amber - Can send out Baron Bunny to help lure enemies to Guoba.
  • Mona - Can control the field with both her elemental skill and burst while dealing hydro damage.
  • Kaeya - Summons cryo swords that circle the on-field character and deal cryo damage.
  • Lisa - Summons a lantern that deals electro damage.

On the flip side, Xiangling is an excellent choice for supporting teams based around the following characters:

  • Qiqi
  • Keqing
  • Mona
  • Ganyu
  • Lisa
  • Kaeya
  • Chongyun
  • Xinyan
  • Bennett
  • Razor
  • Tartaglia

Keep in mind that, like mentioned above, Guoba may be hard to use on a battlefield that isn't being controlled. Xiangling's burst is an excellent buff for other characters, though, as it helps deal constant pyro damage.
