It was recently revealed that Genshin Impact has raked in almost $400 million in revenue in its first two months on the market. That equates to a whopping $6 million per day, on average.

The news comes from a recent report published by Sensor Tower. The report notes that Mihoyo has brought it approximately $393 million in Genshin Impact sales since launching the game back on September 28. This comes after the revelation that Genshin Impact earned a massive $250 million in its first month on mobile alone

Given that Genshin Impact is free to play, all of this revenue was earned via the game's gacha system, which functions similarly to microtransactions in other major games. You buy Genesis Crystals, turn them into Primogems, and spend them on Acquaint Fates or Intertwined Fates in order to give yourself a chance at obtaining a new character or weapon.

Thanks to this system, Genshin Impact managed to become second-highest-grossing mobile game from September 28 to November 28, exactly two months later. Despite its massive returns, its $393 million fell significantly short of Honor of Kings' astronomical $467 million. PUBG Mobile - which came in third place - was slightly behind Genshin Impact, having accrued $384 million in revenue.

China is still Genshin Impact's biggest spender, having pumped $120 million into the game since launch, which accounts for over 30% of total sales. Japan is the second largest spender, racking up a bill of $98 million, while the US is in third place with a sum of $74 million.

Despite launching at the end of September, Genshin Impact is the 29th highest-grossing mobile games of 2020 - that's including not only games that launched earlier this year, but IP that came into 2020 after establishing themselves in previous years. It's not unreasonable to assume that Genshin Impact has a solid chance of becoming one of the major players in the mobile industry in 2021, provided Mihoyo can build on - or even just retain - player interest.
