Genshin Impact is already a beautiful game, but one artist thought it would look even better with a retro makeover. The latest fan-made Genshin Impact creation doing rounds on the internet is a pixel art remake of the game's starting zone – complete with an adorable Paimon, obnoxious low-level slime, and a turn-based battle system.

Anyone who's spent more than five minutes with Genshin Impact will immediately recognize the artwork's setting as Starfell Lake. The artist seems to have reimagined the game as a turn-based RPG, with three different abilities for you to chose from laid out in a retro menu. There's even a lowkey mini-map and a connection indicator – one that's pretty realistic, displaying a ping of 300ms.

Other fans were quick to chime in, pointing out Aether's perfect, expressionless face, and that Paimon somehow looks more adorable in pixel form.

The retro remake looks stunning, but only drawback is we can't see it in action. However, the same artist has put together an impressive amount of other Genshin Impact artwork, including pixelized versions of the most popular characters in the game. Aether, Lumine, Klee, Diona, and Qiqi are all represented. There's even a detailed breakdown of how they went about turning the characters into 2D sprites. Hopefully there's more to come in the future, as it seems like fans of the gacha game can't get enough of the adorable recreations.
