The Chasm has been one of Genshin Impact's longest-awaited areas of exploration, and now the time has finally come for us to explore its mysterious, abyssal depths. Some time ago, these vast mining grounds in the caverns were shut down. Miasma, mushrooms, missing miners in the bowels of its dark pits; this bottomless fissure is rich in characters, quests, lore, and foes, new and old.

It'll take a dedicated adventurer to tackle the plethora of puzzles and challenges within, as the further you go down, the further down you'll still go — until you're left wondering just how deep the rabbit hole beneath Teyvat goes. Let's take a look at what to expect in your exciting new venture!

12 Falling

And for the really unfortunate, dying. To say the Chasm is large is an egregious understatement. It's enormous. Something you don't really realize until you stop for a moment and tilt your screen up and down to get a better look at your surroundings.

Underground in the abandoned tunnels and desolate mines, loom towering cliffs and remnants of an upside-down, forgotten city, lattices of ladders, wooden walkways, and tall and scattered mining equipment fill its depths, all of which you'll need to run along, climb up, fight foes on and glide to in order to carry out your quests. It's easy sometimes to make a misstep and vanish somewhere below.

Up above, the surface is just as much of an open ground for accidental mishaps as you travel. You'll navigate on moving lifts, soar high using jump-boosting stones packed with Anemo, and clash with enemies mining on the peaks of high boulders and cliffs, while attempting to clear your commissions.

11 The Surreptitious Seven-Star Seal Sundering

You should be prepared to run around, climb, rage a little and swing your weapon many times. This takes some patience. The Surreptitious Seven-Star Seal Sundering World Quest is the only way to access the full underground pits of the Chasm and progress in all other side quests and the Archon Quest connected to the region.

Four Bedrock Keys are scattered around the upper rings of the Chasm. Strike them with fired-off Geogranums broken from nearby Geo Formations with some very good aim to undo their seals. But be warned, it's not such an easy task and might exhaust you. To successfully lower the Keys, you'll need to observe the formations staggered around the Bedrock, and figure out the order to fire-off projectiles. Your reflexes, timing, and gliding skills will really be put to the test.

10 Safety Hazards

Genshin Impact The Chasm Exploration Gameplay Childe Tartaglia Ore Rock Balloons

The Chasm brings to us a number of new dangers. Please take note that the fascinating, rock-balloon pictured above can and will kill you. These explosive rocks in particular are often found in narrow tunnels and small passageways above and below ground, and they activate as soon as you step into close proximity. Foes will also be lurking around in the midst of them, forcing you to fight and hope for the best that you won't get blown into a wall in the process.

Along with these are Geo Barrels, similar to Pyro and Cryo Slime Barrels. They'll cause damage in an AoE when struck. However, both barrels and balloon rocks can be used to destroy walls or boulders and gain access to blocked-off routes and hidden treasures.

9 Ores Galore

Genshin Impact The Chasm Gameplay Ore Treasure Hoarders Mining Materials Itto Geo Location

You'll never have to worry about a shortage of White Iron Chunks again. It seems like it should be obvious that there's a lot to mine in this new area, given that the Chasm is one giant mining hole in the middle of the earth, but you'll truly be surprised by how much ore there really is.

You'll find White Iron, Standard Iron, Crystal Chunks, and Noctilucous Jade by the numbers. You'll also find Lumenstone Ores and an Archaic Stone which are used in your quests. Note that Treasure Hoarders will camp and gather around deposits, so if you're ever at a loss of where to search next for weapon and furniture materials, just turn an eye to where they are!

8 Friends and Foes and Foes

A cast of non-playable characters largely drives the plot and quests of the Chasm. For the vast majority of your journey, they'll accompany you into it and ask you for small favors. Some of these can't be completed unless you gain access to the deeper levels of the mines.

As well as allies, there is an equally diverse gathering of enemies. The Chasm brings Fatui, Lectors of the Abyss, and the Black Serpent Knights (who first appeared in Enkanomiya) to us in combat from one end of the map to the other. The new world boss, the Chasmic Serpent, makes its debut too. However, you'll definitely be encountering Geo Slimes, Abyss Mages, and Treasure Hoarders the most. Build your party accordingly to best combat these foes with this in mind!

7 Hidden Treasure

Genshin Impact The Chasm Exploration Caged Geo Formation Unique Rocks

On the upper surface of the Chasm in the golden grasses and red-leafed trees, are a myriad of Unique Rocks and Rock Pillars. The Rocks possess golden sigils, while the Rock Pillars shine with Geo's gold. Striking the Rock Pillars with any heavy-hit, like an Elemental Burst or Elemental Skill strong enough to make an explosion, will produce a shockwave that will resonate against the nearby Unique Rocks. Chests will spawn after successfully triggering the right amount of shockwaves in correlation to the sigils on the stone. Why not give activating them all a try?

6 Harvesting Lumenspar

Genshin Impact Lumenspar Lumenstone Ore Harvesting Recharge Guide Walkthrough Albedo

If you thought harvesting sigils in Enkanomiya for the Bokuso Box and Crimson Agate on Dragonspine were the longest scavenger hunts of your Genshin life, we're just here to tell you, you're going on another one again. Much like Enkanomiya's Three Realms Gateway Offering Event, the Lumenstone Adjuvant has to be equipped to proceed through much of the Chasm and interact with its elements.

It'll be used quite a lot to clear quest objectives, open chests, debuff foes, and trigger mechanisms. The Adjuvant also possesses miasma-banishing abilities with its Billowing Light. To activate it though, your Adjuvant needs to be advanced to level two. Enhance your gadget by collecting the Lumenspar and Lumenstone Ore scattered around the Chasm. They'll often be nestled in corners or floating in high places, and will show up on your map when you're nearby.

5 Getting Trapped In The Ominous Mud

Genshin Impact The Chasm Ominous Mud Oozing Consecration Gameplay Kazuha Mud Slime Foes

It's not the worst danger in the Chasm — until you notice that it actually might be. The Ominous Mud found beneath the earth is marked with Oozing Concretions. These concretions are poisonous, eating away at your health the longer you stay within it, and the monsters you'll run into in these ominous oozes are Slimes, Geovishaps, and Whopperflowers, with wide AoE DMG, jump-and-drop attacks that can dangerously pin and trap you to the spot; killing you swiftly.

The problem isn't fighting them, per se. It's avoiding them. You can't sprint in the mud, so you'll either need to dispatch the monsters attacking from it quickly, or rely on the defense of your characters. Plus, keep in mind some monsters found in the mud will have boosted attack.

4 Constantly Losing The Light

Genshin Impact The Chasm Gameplay Guide Lumenstone Adjuvant Recharge Itto

It's a sad experience when you discover a chest protected by shards or reach a mechanism far from any Waypoint or easy-to-reach location and you are told you don't have sufficient energy. Recharging the energy of your Lumenstone Adjuvant can become something of an ordeal if you lose track of where nearby Lumenlamps and Lucklight Flies are, but know you can recharge the Adjuvant by coming into contact with a Seelie and staying by it once it is nested. There are also numerous particle clouds of wisping blue energy you can absorb power from.

Keeping energy in the crystal at all times is a good habit to make. You never know when you'll need to trigger a device with The Billowing Light, come across a locked timed trial, or need to feed a giant talking tree some of its life force as part of a side quest.

3 Mandatory Chain Quests

Genshin Impact The Chasm Map Location Quest Underground Mine

Access to the lowest levels of the Chasm is blocked to you until you complete the necessary chain quests under 'Cave Delvers' in your World Quests. If you attempt to pass through an area without doing the tasks asked of you by the expedition team you're accompanied by, Paimon will turn you around. The map also remains hidden until the chain quests involving it are finished.

This could be a bummer at first for explorers who like to poke around maps for a bit before playing through story content, but this has its benefits, especially since the Chasm is the story. These quests also tend to lead you straight to Seelies, chests, trials, and sealed-off passageways that can be broken through with an advanced-enough Adjuvant.

2 Exploration

Genshin Impact The Chasm Exploration Mushroom Quest Sumeru

The Chasm takes time to explore. Reaching true 100 percent completion on the map will take more than a few days — even more than a few weeks. The hidden achievements are numerous, the treasures countless; filled with puzzles and rewards easily missed. There are also time-gated quests that require multiple revisits with certain NPCs. You'll be flooded with commissions from the valleys, sent to the highest cliffs, and into the deepest parts of the mines near endlessly; so safe to say, you'll be active in the Chasm for a while.

1 Plot

Genshin Impact The Chasm Exploration Traveler Statue of Seven

Expect a lot of it. The Chasm is a key point in the main storyline Genshin presents. Questions and speculations had from the beginning of the game, until this point of release, are finally given answers, and it's a trove of pure treasure. Revelations about your sibling, the past, and the ever-elusive Khaenri'ah are gifted through the intertwined web of quests leading from the surface to below, and to be honest, it's a surprising amount of information revealed.

Without a doubt, the Chasm and its events are a catalyst for the story to bend in a new direction, and they will be greatly importantly moving forward in the next chapters of the long journey ahead.
