This week the Genshin Impact community has had a week unlike any other. The game’s first anniversary was on September 28, and while this should be a cause for celebration, things are far from joyous. Mihoyo was likely celebrating as it announced that Genshin Impact has raked in a whopping $2 billion. However, the disappointment with the anniversary events has now hit a fever pitch and it’s not pretty.

Complaints about the Genshin Impact anniversary began all the way back in August when Mihoyo’s plans first began to emerge. The daily log-in event they announced offers players 10 free wishes alongside a small number of hero wit’s, mora, and enchantment materials. This guarantees at least one four-star weapon or character, but not much else. The extra rewards are drastically less than what many regular in-game events offer.

Over the next month, players continued to complain about the event, but Mihoyo appeared to ignore the disgruntled comments. They announced new updates and an anniversary concert, but this wasn’t enough to keep the community happy. Low-level complaints continued, but in the last few days things have reached new heights and the whole thing is now ridiculously out of hand.

It began earlier this week when enraged fans, feeling like Mihoyo isn’t listening, began to review bomb Genshin Impact across different platforms. When this provoked no reaction, they started on Mihoyo’s other title, Honkai Impact 3D.

Review bombing is a practice that doesn’t benefit anyone. Malicious reviews will generally be mass removed and it just seeks to make the writers look entitled and childish. While it appears that Mihoyo is paying attention to fan reactions, that doesn’t make the practice right. Nor does it mean that this was what caused them to notice the reaction. Even worse is the fact that review bombing Genhin and Honkai sadly isn’t where things stopped.

For reasons most of us can’t comprehend, a group of entitled and irate fans took things one step further and branched out with their review bombing. They quickly began to target other gacha games and free-to-play mobile games. Despite being completely unconnected to Mihoyo, titles including Clash of Clans, FIFA Soccer, Pokemon Go, and even Among Us have all been review bombed with comments about Genshin’s anniversary event being left as reviews. All this has resulted in is the Genshin Impact community no doubt getting a reputation for being entitled assholes.

The week has ended on what should be a high as Mihoyo announced that the Version 2.2 Livestream will take place this Sunday. It remains to be seen if the anniversary event will be addressed during this event. Regardless, here’s to hoping the community sees sense and starts expressing their opinions in a more calm and rational manner.
