One of the first things Genshin Impact players love to do when they get a new character is rushing to level them up. Just like ripping the packaging off a new toy in order to play with it, the anticipation often overcomes any sense of caution as you hurry to test out your new acquisition.

The case is no different with Yelan, the newest Hydro support to arrive in Genshin Impact. Anyone who was lucky enough to get her is probably trying to level Yelan up and put her into battle as soon as possible. If that's you, unfortunately, you'll need a hefty amount of resources in order to bring her up to fighting standards, but this guide will tell you exactly what you need to collect for your new character.

The materials listed for each Ascension Phase are the materials required for that phase only. To know how many materials are needed to take Yelan from Level 0 to Level 90, you'll need to add all the materials from all rows together.

Where To Find Yelan's Ascension Materials

Genshin Impact Yelan with a paper

Varunada Lazurite

Varunada Lazurite appears in several forms (Slivers, Chunks, Fragments, and Gemstones), but they all mainly come from the same source: bosses. Azhdaha, Stormterror, and Childe all have a chance to drop Varunada Lazurite, but the odds are fairly low and you can only get rewards from these bosses once per week anyway.

Your better bet is to fight the Hydro Hypostasis and Rhodeia of Loch, who will reliably drop Varunada Lazurite in all its forms as long as you have Resin to collect it. If you get sick of fighting those two, the Primo Geovishap will also drop Varunada Lazurite, but only when it infuses itself with Hydro.

The higher denominations of Varunada Lazurite can also be crafted with Alchemy. Three lower-tier Varunada Lazurite can be combined to form one higher-tier variant (i.e. three Slivers can be combined to form one Fragment). This is a great way to convert all your Slivers into the Chunks and Gemstones that you'll need for the later stages of Ascension.

Starconch

Starconches are best found on the beaches of Liyue, specifically the coastline that extends from Yaoguang Shoal to Guyun Stone Forest.

They're quite numerous and easily visible against the sand, so you shouldn't have a hard time collecting them. If you're really struggling to spot them, though, Yanfei and Qiqi have Passive Talents that will mark Starconches on the mini-map.

Recruit's, Sergeant's, And Lieutenant's Insignias

These Insignias drop when you defeat members of the Fatui. Sergeant's Insignias only drop from Level 40+ Fatui while Lieutentant's Insignias only drop from Level 60+ Fatui. Aim for the higher-level foes for the most efficient farming.

Like Varunada Lazurite, the lower tiers of Insignias can be combined to create the higher tiers at an exchange rate of three-to-one.

Runic Fang

Runic Fangs are a drop exclusive to the Ruin Serpent boss in The Chasm: Underground Mines. This boss can be fought for rewards an unlimited number of times, as long as you have the Resin.

Each takedown of the Ruin Serpent will reward you with two or three Runic Fangs. Yelan is currently the only character who uses these as an Ascension material.
