The most bizarre crossover of 2019 is currently happening on the Nintendo Switch, as Geralt and Ciri from The Witcher III: Wild Hunt are now available as skins in Daemon X Machina for the Nintendo Switch.

Daemon X Machina is a fast-paced mech shooter, where the player flies around in giant robot suits and battles against armies of robots. The Witcher III: Wild Hunt stars a warrior who has undergone mutations in order to hunt down and slay monsters, in a dark fantasy world with political schemers and arcane spellcasters. The two games have nothing in common.

The Witcher III: Wild Hunt - Complete Edition is now available for Nintendo Switch, which is as good a reason as any to add skins of both Geralt and Ciri as free DLC for Daemon X Machina. The fans who were hoping for a magically-infused Witcher robot will be disappointed, as the skins are only used for the player character and not the mechs.

Geralt has been a busy boy in terms of crossovers, as he has appeared as both a guest character in Soul Calibur VI and had an entire questline based around him in Monster Hunter WorldIt makes sense for Geralt to have arrived in settings similar to his own, due to the magic portals that can be found in his own universe, but it feels strange to see him in a science fiction game. Geralt's world is very much inspired by European fantasy tropes and it's bizarre to see him in a Japanese mech game that is heavily inspired by anime.

It's a shame that there isn't a magical Witcher-inspired robot, as the player won't see much of the Geralt and Ciri costumes outside of the hub, as leaving the mech suit in the middle of battle is tantamount to suicide in Daemon X Machina. It's cool to see The Witcher franchise see some love on the Nintendo Switch, especially in Japan, but a Geralt costume might have made more sense in something like The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild than in Daemon X Machina.

The Geralt and Ciri Outer Set are both available to download for free on the Nintendo eShop.
