It’s time to make for a new hack-and-slash game made in the style of traditional Japanese art. GetsuFumaDen: Undying Moon is finally coming to Early Access on Steam, May 13. Konami is the developer of this side-scrolling adventure game, and the trailer makes it look fantastic (not to mention, the music is epic).
In the game, you play as the leader of the living world, and your job is to descend into hell to get rid of the source of “the cataclysm.” In the game, you have other-worldly powers as your aid for fighting the enemies in hell.
The art style of the game is probably the most notable part, as it was inspired by Japanese ukiyo-e art style. You can't get too distracted by the beauty of the game though, since it’s marketed as being full of brutal boss battles against demon lords, giant centipedes, hydra, and more.
Luckily, it sounds like this isn’t a game you’re going to want to just button mash your way through. Considering that combat is based off of Japanese martial arts, the timing of your movements is important for performing the best attacks, thus making the game more skill-based. There are a bunch of different weapons available to the player, including katanas, battle umbrellas, spears, and more.
Another cool aspect of this game is that after you die, you get new map layouts and challenges, so it’s never going to get old. You can level up and customize your character in hopes that your next run will go better than your last.
In a similar flavor to Dark Souls, in GetsuFumaDen: Undying Moon, you will use souls you collect in hell in order to power up your character and up certain stats or add certain enhancements.
A roadmap for the game’s content has also been provided, and this shows when a bunch of different content for the game will be released, including weapons, characters, and a planned update.
