Rather than taking the traditional route and having Jin level up by gaining experience points in Ghost of Tsushima, Sucker Punch decided to use a more thematic system for gaining power. When you complete specific actions, your Legend will grow which, in turn, will grant you Technique Points you can use to purchase new skills and techniques. Naturally, that makes increasing your Legend very important.

There are four primary ways you'll want to focus on when trying to boost your Legend. Each one will reward you with a different amount of Legend, but the ones with the biggest reward usually come with the biggest challenges. We'll show you all the best ways to increase your Legend to fully become the Ghost of Tsushima.

#1 Complete Tales

Ghost of Tsushima Mythic Tales Locations & Rewards

Tales are the primary way to earn Legend in Ghost of Tsushima. They are essentially your quests, and can be further broken down into three different types. You will be able to tell how much Legend you stand to gain from each tale before beginning, ranging from a Minor Legend Increase up to a Major Legend Increase First are Jin's Journey Tales, which are the primary story missions of the game. You'll need to complete these to progress the game, and they always give you a Major Legend Increase. Mythic Tales are one step below that, granting a Moderate Legend Increase along with other unique rewards like new weapons and techniques. These are the major side quests in the game, and each of the seven will unlock as you progress through the story. Finally, granting the smallest Legend rewards are the Tales of Tsushima. These are the more minor side quests, and make up for their comparative small reward in numbers. Across the entire game there are 61 Tales of Tsushima - more than enough to give your Legend a nice boost whenever you need it.

#2 Liberate Invaded Towns/Villages

Liberate Ogawa Dojo: Ghost Of Tsushima Walkthrough

Since the story and setting revolves around the Mongol invasion of Tsushima, you can naturally expect to come across plenty of occupied settlements across the island. By clearing out the invaders, Jin can return these towns and villages to their native people, granting you a nice boost in Legend at the same time. The amount of Legend you get is determined by how big the settlement is, and how difficult it is to liberate. Just like with Tales, you can see how much you stand to gain by highlighting the location on the map.

#3 Lighting Lighthouses

A New Horizon - Ghost Of Tsushima Quest Walkthrough

One of the many types of locations you can discover on your travels are Lighthouses. There are eight to find across all regions, and are always located near the ocean. Because of their size they're quite easy to find, and offer a nice bump to your Legend for basically no effort.

#4 Beating Random Encounters

Unlike other RPGs, you can't endlessly farm Legend by simply repeatedly killing the same group of enemies over and over. Legend isn't earned by individual kills, but by completing objectives or events. Getting ambushed or coming across groups of Mongol warriors as you're traveling does count if you cut them all down, but is by far the least effective way if you need to increase your Legend. For one thing, as the name implies, these are random events so you never know when or if you'll encounter one. Second, the amount of Legend you gain from them is by far the smallest. While they technically can be farmed endlessly, if you have enough patience, we recommend you use all other methods for increasing your legend before this one.
