Fans of the upcoming Ghost of Tsushima won't have to worry about any last-minute delays, as it has been confirmed that the game has gone gold and is ready for production.

The announcement comes in the form of a tweet that was posted on the official Sucker Punch Productions Twitter account. In the Twitter post, the development studio makes the "gone gold" announcement and states that Ghost of Tsushima is a "culmination of years of hard work," and how everyone is excited for the game to release. The announcement is an excellent sign that, barring a wild production issue, the game will hit store shelves July 17.

For people who may not be familiar with the industry term of "going gold," it simply means that a video game has officially finished development and is ready for mass production by having its game data copied onto disks (physical versions) and the executable (digital version) being put onto digital storefronts. At that point, all that's left to do is wait for the game's launch date before playing it.

In Ghost of Tsushima's case, the announcement can be seen as a huge sigh of relief because the game hasn't experienced any delays and the possibility of any last-minute pushbacks is non-existent. Considering the fact that a number of video games have experienced significant delays in 2020 like The Last of Us Part II and Cyberpunk 2077 (especially because of the coronavirus pandemic), it's only natural to think that other games might end up in the same situation. Luckily, Sucker Punch's game seems to have dodged a bullet.

Ghost of Tsushima is set to release for the PS4 on July 17. While no PS5 upgrade for the game has been announced as of yet, Ghost of Tsushima will certainly be playable on PS5 through backwards compatibility. Since the PS5 will offer more power and more advanced tech, it will be interesting to see how the game performs on the next-generation console. Of course, there is also the possibility that a separate PS5 version of the game will release at some point in the future, but until Sucker Punch makes the announcement, it would be best to not get one's hopes up.
