It's been revealed that Ghost of Tsushima's Iki Island expansion will include new skills as well as difficulty scaling for those jumping in at the end of the game.

In an interview with IGN, Ghost of Tsushima Art Director Jason Connell and Senior Writer Patrick Downs talked about the new gameplay additions and PS5 features being introduced in the game's Iki Island expansion. According to Connell, while there won't be any new weapons or stances introduced in the expansion, your horse can be kitted out with armor and will also get a brand new charge skill.

Connell also teases the addition of other skills, but wants people to "play and find out for themselves." It would be very odd to see Jin's horse receive a new skill and for the man himself to get none. Hopefully some of these teased skills will improve upon the game's excellent combat and also gives us some more options on how to silently take down enemies.

Connell then goes on to explain that a big part of development was making the expansion a challenge for players no matter what point they decide to set sail. As a result, it's been revealed that the difficulty of Iki Island will scale depending on how strong you are. If you decide to finish the whole game before you jump in, or want to jump in as soon as possible, the expansion has been developed in a way that will keep the game challenging:

"If you've already gone all the way to the end of the game, it's not like it's going to be a breeze," explains Connell. "It's still going to have a challenge for you, which is important considering the way that we've implemented this."

Being a first party exclusive, Ghost of Tsushima: Director's Cut will also include some nifty PS5 features like 3D audio and the DualSense's haptic feedback and adaptive triggers. Connel speaks specifically about how 3D audio will be used to improve the game's Guiding Wind, a feature designed to guide players without the use of quest markers.

Ghost of Tsushima: Director's Cut is set to launch on August 20 for PS4 and PS5, and includes the new Iki Island expansion that pits Jin against a new enemy. The Iki Island expansion will be roughly the same length as one act in the base game and will feature animal sanctuaries that lets you tame monkeys and cats. Existing owners of Ghost of Tsushima will be able to upgrade to the Director's Cut for $19.99.
