The wait is almost over. After years of build-up and anticipation, Sony has announced that Sucker Punch's Ghost of Tsushima will release on June 26, 2020, for the PS4. Rumored to potentially be headed to Sony's next-generation platform, the mystery surrounding this game is likely to be cleared up now that we have a concrete date to lock on our calendars.

Along with the announcement comes a brand new trailer and a breakdown of various editions you can buy. There's obviously the standard edition that comes with just the game and carries a $59.99 MSRP, but a rather nifty collector's edition going for $169.99 comes with a replica mask, a war banner, a cloth map, an art book, and a steelbook case. If you don't want any of that tat, there's a $69.99 version that will come with just the steelbook and some digital extras.

The story trailer finally shows us more about what Tsushima's plotline will be. Taking a typical revenge angle common in Samurai films, the main character supposedly dies on the beach and somehow comes back to life. I doubt there's a supernatural angle going on, but there's still a lot we aren't sure about here.

I'm kind of over open-world games and even Triple-A titles, but Ghost of Tsushima is one of the few that I'm excited about. Taking place in a setting that hasn't been mined all that much in modern gaming, it's more the story and Sucker Punch's attention to detail that has me intrigued. Ghost of Tsushima really does look like an Akira Kurosawa film come to life.

Whether or not it lives up to the hype, it's nice to see that Sony isn't completely abandoning the PS4 in the lead up to the PS5's release. This will likely be the last major release from the company before that console and it looks like a hell of a swan song for the massively successful machine.

The June date is a smart move to ensure that other games don't cannibalize Tsushima's success. It also gives the Sony faithful enough time to chew into The Last of Us Part II. That's always appreciated.
