There are so many interesting concepts at play here and the titles feature several monsters that take visual cues from popular Japanese folklore and pop culture. It’s engaging enough to have you invest your time into solving these creatures’ plights and ridding the streets of their menacing presence.

10 Shrine Dancer

Ghostwire Tokyo - Shrine Dancer Preparing Attack

Not as scary as it is annoying, this flying menace will cackle at you as it soars through the sky floating above your head. These Yokai are a nuisance, a hassle to deal with, and they start hurling tons of projectiles at you as soon as their health starts depleting.

Ironically, they’re manifestations of people who’ve given up on their dreams. Despite being likened to a flying bird-like enemy, they’re pretty beefy when it comes to their health. They can tank a handle a lot of damage you dish out and can even explode out on demand.

9 Rain Walkers

Ghostwire Tokyo - Rain Walker Tapping A Car Window-1

You’ll find these Walkers aimlessly wandering around the street of Tokyo looking for a victim to zap their energy clean. They’ll throw projectiles at you and will try to shield themselves from any of your attacks, your average Rain Walker is as creepy as it is lonely and tired.

These entities are based on the Noppera-bō, faceless human-like Yokai that terrify people with their presence. The Rain Walker is an excellent dig at the toxic corporate work culture in Japan, where over-exhausting yourself is a virtue rather than a vice.

8 Students Of Misery

Ghostwire Tokyo - Student Of Misery Staring At A Desktop-1

As unsettling as it is to see a group of school girls with no heads wandering about, it’s even creepier as soon as they decide to engage with you in combat as if they were a gaggle of Kim Possibles busting out one acrobatic feat after the next.

The uniformed versions look surprisingly eerie in comparison to their red and green counterparts, and they’d feel a lot more terrifying if they weren’t the main fodder thrown at you over the course of your playthrough.

7 Forlorn And Forsaken

Ghostwire Tokyo - A Forsaken Chilling In The Park-1

The ringmasters behind all the Students, Mini-Bosses, and Rain Walkers spawning, these annoying yet colorful beings of pure misery walk around with cute little umbrellas and shadowed faces with red eyes peeking out through the hood.

You really see the resentment oozing off of them, and what makes it worse is they’re actually kids who are either sad or angry about being abused. Apparently, you’re the perfect outlet for them to express their rage, and the surrounding enemies will do all the dirty work.

6 Relentless Walker

Ghostwire Tokyo - Relentless Walker Walking Towards The Camera

A grotesque amalgamation of all the rage-filled tendencies the other Walker entities have, this Visitor is akin to a final boss of sorts and you have to face it with confidence and smarts to make anything happen. It’s the teeth and big size that highlight and describe its demeanor.

Try to avoid the hammer. That’s easier said than done while you’re made to avoid any barrages of attacks the creature hurls your way. What makes this boss fight even harder is the monster eventually starts charging at you with unbridled rage.

5 Paper Dolls

Ghostwire Tokyo - Marinette Doll Idle Animation-1

These mannequin-like atrocities litter the streets and attack you with flying projectiles as if they’re bullet-hell planes aiming at a target. They’re also capable of performing light melee attacks that aren’t as intimidating, however.

A variety of this type of Visitor (Marinette) is also capable of annoyingly healing the other enemies in your vicinity. Hence, they’re not only creepy but also rather formidable and should be dealt with first before you move on to dealing with the mini-bosses in the area.

4 Kuchisakke

Ghostwire Tokyo - Kuchisakke Posing In The Street-1

Tall, brunette, and terrifying, these Yokai-inspired monstrosities are some of the worst Visitors to come across in this game as they boast a high amount of durability and speed. They can charge at you with hedge clippers and have the power to sever limbs with their attacks.

Avoiding their charge isn’t particularly easy either, and both versions of this kind of Visitor have their own uniquely terrifying designs. This variant boasts a fashionable trenchcoat and facemask that hide their disfigured mouth.

3 Lamentation

Ghostwire Tokyo - Close-up Shot Of A Lamentation-1

One of the most disturbing yet intimidating Yokai you’ll encounter during your playthrough of Ghostwire: Tokyo are Lamentations. They lunge, float, and lash out at you with high-damage melee attacks meant to eviscerate your body. They’re loosely based on the Ohaguro-Bettari from Japanese folklore.

Apparently, children that were isolated manifest this rage-filled monster, and take on an appearance that would shake anyone to the core. Like the Forlorn, it appears children have the capacity to harbor the most negative energy in this game’s universe. They’re also rather hard to face off against.

2 Shiromuku

Ghostwire Tokyo - Shiromuku Spotted On The Streets-1

The Shiromuku are terrifyingly tall 12 ft. monsters with horribly disfigured mouths that display a large grin, With the worst posture you could possibly imagine, these beasts tower over you as they traverse the landscape.

They can manifest ice-based projectiles and are very tanky, and not only that they can also animate ice plates to shield themselves from any of your potential attacks once they’ve been damaged substantially. These lanky creatures can tear into you with relative ease, and they also have a Severance attack they can use once they freeze you in place.

1 Crimson Kuchisakke

Ghostwire Tokyo - Crimson Kuchisakke Walking Towards The Camera

The Crimson variant is based on the urban legend, Kuchisake-onna, and features the entire get-up that’s characteristic of the demon from folklore. A giant slit mouth with terrifying sharp teeth and unsettling eyes. They tend to be just as aggressive as normal Kuchisakke.

The crimson dress and hedge clippers further add to the creepy factor her character design oozes off and it looks far edgier than whatever her facemask normal variant manages to pull off. She’s also just as hard to kill, with attacks that can end your game in seconds.
