There’s a lot to see and do in Ghostwire: Tokyo. If you are a fan of a good, old-fashioned collect-a-thon, you are going to be in your element. Exploring the desolated streets of Shibuya is always a treat for the eyes, but look a bit deeper, and you’re bound to find something mechanically enticing.
Most collectible hunts in Ghostwire: Tokyo comes with some sort of incentive. Whether that be permanent passive boons from Tanuki, Skill points from KK Notes, or, in the case of Prayer Beads, unfathomable destructive and utilitarian power. If there was only one thing you hunted in Ghostwire: Tokyo - besides the ghosts, of course - then make it Prayer Beads.
Updated on April 16, 2023, by Axel Bosso: With the recent launch of Ghostwire: Tokyo on the Xbox systems and its DLC, Spider's Thread, we thought it was a good time to update our guides and give you all the help we can for fighting Yokai. In this guide, you'll find the most useful and strongest Prayer Beads you can pick up while navigating the streets of Tokyo.
Where To Find Prayer Beads?
Prayer Beads are almost exclusively found at cleansed Shrines scattered around Tokyo. They serve as rewards for clearing the main route, as well as expanding the map in optional ways in addition to just clearing away all that nasty fog. One thing to remember: you don’t automatically receive your Prayer Beads for clearing Shrines. You have to manually pick them up.
The few that aren’t linked to Shrines, are instead linked to Nekomata and serve as rewards for completing enough Relic Requests. Finally, some beads are rewards for nabbing the Hero Of Tokyo Trophy/Achievement and absorbing all 240,300 Spirits. Yes, you read that right. No, It’s not a typo.
What Do Prayer Beads Do?
Prayer Beads are equipable items that serve as Ghostwire: Tokyo’s main form of gear customization. Prayer Beads are incredibly powerful tools that Akito can - and should - use. Each set of Prayer Beads can drastically alter how you play the game, with many providing potent combat buffs or useful utility options.
Akito will gain the ability to wear Prayer Beads during Chapter Two, however, he will only be able to equip a single set. You can increase that number to three if you invest your Skill Points and Magatama, and this is something that you should absolutely do. Very few abilities compare to Prayer Beads.
If you need a quick infusion of Skill Points, then finding KK Investigation Notes will grant you a whopping 20 Skill Points per note, and there are 20 notes to find.
Best Prayer Beads
Sleuth Beads
Location Of Beads
- Cleanse Hirokawa Shrine
- Cleanse Shiratsuki Shrine
- Cleanse Onten Shrine
Speaking of KK Investigation Notes, Sleuth Beads are designed to make finding these cunningly placed notes much easier. If you are actively hunting these things down, then temporarily slipping a set of Sleuth beads is a must. The only downside to these beads is that they inevitably become worthless. Still, when they are good, they are amazing.

Spirit Perception Beads'
Location Of Beads
- Cleanse Hitani Shrine
- Cleanse Saihama Building Rooftop Torii Gate
Leveling up in Ghostwire: Tokyo is surprisingly difficult. Enemies don’t grant much EXP, enemies are not overly common, and you need a lot of EXP to level up - even early game. That’s because the most effective way to gain experience is through the cleansing of spirits.
These floating lost souls appear when Akito uses his Spectral Vision, but Spirit Perception Beads enhance this ability, making it much more useful. The more spirits you find, the faster you level up. A fantastic utility bead.

Talisman Beads
Location Of Beads
- Cleanse Monokane Building Rooftop Torii Gate
- Cleanse Shimokusa Shrine
It’s easy to forget Talismans exist simply because they are expensive to buy. Not using them is a waste in and of itself, of course. This is where Talisman Beads come in. These drastically increase the effectiveness of your Talismans, making them do so much more, without actually increasing your investment.
Spending 7,000 Maika on a Talisman sounds pretty steep. Spending that same 7,000 Maika on the same Talisman that is several times more potent, is just a sound spending strategy.

Flame Beads
Location Of Beads
- Cleanse Kirigaoka Shrine
- Cleanse Mikubo Shrine
- Cleanse Akitsu Shrine
Akito’s Ethereal Weaving is a sight to behold - all being fantastic combat tools capable of destroying any foe. That being said, they all have their niche, and none more so than the Fire element.
A slow-charging AOE fireball, this attack is immensely powerful at the cost of having very low “Ammo”. Whilst the Flame Beads don’t alleviate the limited resources issue, it does make the fireball much more effective, reducing the need to fire as many, well, fireballs.

Aqua Beads
Location Of Beads
- Cleanse Toyoi Shrine
- Cleanse Kappagaike Shrine
- Cleanse Yamaki Shrine
If Gust is your weak chaff killer, and Fire is your AOE nuke, then Water is your happy medium. Water should be your go-to element for just about everything. It does great damage, “ammo” is plentiful, and it can hit multiple enemies.
If any weave was to be considered the “workhorse” of Ghostwire: Tokyo, it would be Water. Making your Water Weaves more powerful just makes sense, as you should be using it all the time. This will save ammo, save time, and make you feel so much stronger.
