God of War has officially won Best Game at this year's BAFTA (British Academy of Film and Television Arts) Games Awards.

The annual BAFTA is currently happening. In a press release, the organization listed the awards for the game's section of the BAFTA and God of War achieved the Best Game award. In addition to that, the game also achieved Best Music and Narrative, and Best Performance was given to Jeremy Davies, who voiced The Stranger/Baldur.

A few other awards were also given out. For example, Nintendo Labo won Best Family title and Game Innovation. Return of the Obra Dinn was given the award of Artistic Achievement and Game Design. For Best Evolving Game, Fortnite took home the gold, beating out titles such as Overwatch and Tom Clancy's Rainbow Six Siege. Interestingly, A Way Out won best Multiplayer title, taking the award away from games such as Super Smash Bros. Ultimate and Overcooked 2.

As for the other nominees in the Best Game section, God of War was up against Red Dead Redemption 2, CelesteReturn of the Obra Dinn, Assassin's Creed Odyssey, and Astro Bot Rescue Mission.

Out of the games listed, Red Dead Redemption 2 probably posed the biggest threat to God of War. However, Red Read was denied once again. This means that God of War has edged it out of four major video game awards. God of War won Game of the Year at The Game Awards, D.I.C.E. Awards, SXSW Gaming Awards, and now the BAFTA.

Interestingly, Red Dead Redemption 2 actually has a higher Metacritic score. God of War's Metacritic score is 94, while Red Dead Redemption 2's is 97. Those are fantastic numbers either way, but it's certainly interesting that God of War has managed to snag more awards with a lower score.

The 2018 God of War breathed new life into the franchise. Prior to this installment, the series focused on a hack 'n slash type of gameplay. Kratos was a vengeful warrior on a quest to destroy Zeus. In the new game, though, which takes place years into the future, Kratos is older, and has a son. The gameplay switched gears, becoming more of a traditional action platformer than a hack 'n slash.

Many would agree that everything worked in the game's favor. The narrative was compelling, and the gameplay was engaging. Although a sequel has not been officially confirmed, it's only a matter of time, especially given its cliffhanger.

God of War is available on PS4.
