The sheer number of excellent titles on the PlayStation 4 is simply immense, with games like Uncharted and The Last Of Us Part II being just a few of the many excellent titles that have easily become some of the greatest titles ever made. One such PlayStation exclusive that shares this status with the greats is God Of War — a game that was widely anticipated upon launch and ended up surpassing everyone's expectations by delivering one of the greatest gaming experiences in recent memory.

While there are several excellent elements of the series that deserve a mention, the one thing we're going to focus on right now is the combat, which carries forward the hack-and-slash combat of the original God Of War trilogy in a new setting and redefines it in a wholly unique manner. For people who just can't get enough of this amazing combat, Muspelheim is the perfect realm for them to flex their combat skills in a bevy of challenges. For people who wish to figure out the best way possible to tackle these challenges, here's an in-depth guide to the Muspelheim challenges that should cover all your bases.

11 Trial I — Normal

The first trial in Muspelheim sets the stage for what's about to come. It's fairly simple — just eliminate 15 enemies in a time limit of 3 minutes.

This challenge is all about dishing out as much damage as possible efficiently. Make sure your hits are powerful and accurate. A combination of good combos, Atreus' support, and Runic Attacks should make quick work of this challenge.

10 Trial I — Hard

Now's a good time as any to state that each trial in Muspelheim is grouped into a normal and hard stage. The hard version of the first trial sees you take care of three waves of enemies.

While this might sound simple, enemies keep respawning if anyone in their party is left, so you need to manage enemy health efficiently and make sure that you swiftly dispatch every enemy in quick succession.

9 Trial II — Normal

The second trial in Muspelheim sees you facing an unending barrage of enemies, with the ultimate goal being for Kratos to stay alive for 5 minutes.

It doesn't take an expert to state that you need to play defensively during this challenge. Try and unleash attacks only when you know you're not open to a counterattack — a huge problem when it comes to Runic Attacks — and grab as many health pickups as possible.

8 Trial II — Hard

While the normal trial might not post that much trouble, the same can't be said for its advanced version.

This challenge will throw you in for a loop initially since enemies regenerate health almost instantly. So, instead of wailing away with your axe, use your fists — along with Atreus' blue arrows — to stun enemies and kill them instantly with your brutal attacks.

7 Trial III — Normal

The third trial sees you facing off against a group of enemies, one of whom is Elite status. This means that he can't be hurt unless the other enemies have been taken care of.

Make a mental note of the enemy who's an Elite, and focus your attacks on his minions. Try not to waste any of your moves, since a drawn-out battle will almost certainly spell the end for Kratos.

6 Trial III — Hard

The hard version of Trial III can actually be somewhat perplexing if you don't know the trick behind completing it. Basically, you need to kill enemies inside a circle that moves around the arena.

While this might sound simple, the execution can get kinda tricky. Most of Kratos' attacks knock his enemies back, which means that by the time you unleash a finishing blow, the enemy is out of the circle. A good way to subvert this is by attacking enemies into the circle and finishing them off near the center, instead of doing the complete opposite.

5 Trial IV — Normal

The normal version of this trail is actually one of the most cathartic moments in the game. You just need to kill a hundred enemies, no strings attached.

This can actually prove to be a ton of fun. Just unleash the combination of Kratos and Atreus on your enemies and beat them to a pulp. Just make sure you aren't too liberal when it comes to your health.

4 Trial IV — Hard

The harder version of this trail entails that you don't let any enemy capture Atreus — a task that seems easy but can be challenging for some.

Getting carried away while fighting enemies is a huge problem in this challenge, so make sure that you stay close to your child at all times and prevent any enemy from getting too close.

3 Trial V — Normal

Trial V sees you face off against enemies on a limited timer — initially just a minute — that gets extended with every kill. While using your axe might be tempting here, chances are that your fights will get extended as a result, culminating in a loss.

Instead, you're betting off using a combination of your fists and Atreus's arrows to rack up easy kills and manage this timer.

2 Trial V — Hard

The hard version of this trial is easily one of the most frustrating combat encounters in God Of War. In this challenge, you need to defeat twenty enemies without taking any damage.

While this might seem interesting, the reality is that this challenge will force you to adopt the most boring and mind-numbing strategy possible. God Of War's combat isn't about keeping distance... and yet, this challenge will force you to rely on Kratos' axe throws and Atreus' arrows for an excruciatingly long time.

1 The Final Fight Against The Valkyrie

It would be fitting that the final challenge awaiting you at the peak of the mountain is a fight against Gondul, a Valkyrie. This is possibly the most challenging encounter you'll face, so make sure that you're alert to any possible danger.

Whenever she starts an unblockable attack in the air, either perfect your dodge roll or — the easier option — use Atreus' arrows to shoot her down. She also has two AOE attacks in the form of a fire splash and a spear slam. However, her worst attack is easily when she screams "Valhalla" and flies into the air. Roll around as much as you possibly can, otherwise, she'll slam her hell on Kratos' face and take off a chunk of health, if not kill him outright.
