Sony Santa Monica has shared the first look at Thor in God of War: Ragnarok, and it's causing a debate on how the god of thunder should look.

Raf Grassetti, art director on God of War: Ragnarok, shared the first look at some of the characters in the game through some character renders. One of the character renders that Grassetti shared is for Thor, who hasn't been shown in God of War up until now.

Beyond revealing that Thor's voice actor is Sons of Anarchy's Ryan Hurst, this character render reveals a very different interpretation of Thor than many were expecting. Rather than being the golden-haired, red-caped, Chris Hemsworth hunk that many were probably expecting when they think of Thor. Instead, Ragnarok's version is fat, red-haired, and not particularly hunky.

This depiction has gone viral since Ragnarok's reveal, with many surprised at the design of Thor. Comments underneath the image show that many fans don't think that he should be fat and would rather that he was muscular and blonde. Others are comparing him to the Endgame iteration of Thor, whilst others are lamenting the surprise being ruined by a piece of concept art.

Some are looking back on his appearance in the secret ending and saying that there was no indication that he was fat there, despite that being a dream sequence and him being covered in armour. Mimir even references Thor being fat in the first game, calling him a "fat dobber", "thundering lummox", and the "biggest butchering bastard in the nine realms".

Although most of the comments are currently taking the mick out of this iteration of Thor and fat people in general, there are also a fair number of people praising how accurate this portrayal of Thor is to Norse mythology, as well as pointing out that fat and muscle aren't relative to strength, and that this version of Thor is just as likely to do someone in as the Hemsworth portrayal.
