Sony Santa Monica has confirmed that God of War Ragnarok won't have a photo mode at launch, and that the feature will instead be added as part of a post-launch patch.

If there's one thing that PlayStation exclusives are synonymous with at the moment, it's accessibility options. If there's a second thing that they're known for, it's their extensive photo modes, something that's been a trend for PlayStation games over the last generation. It looks like one game won't be joining in on that feature right away, though.

Over on Twitter, Sony Santa Monica confirmed that God of War Ragnarok won't be launching with a photo mode, responding to a recent preview that noted that it was missing. It confirmed that the feature will be added at some point in the future, but didn't give any kind of release window to go off of, only promising it was coming.

It said, "Photo Mode will be coming to God of War Ragnarök after launch - we’ll share more details closer to when we plan to release it. We can’t wait to see all of your captures once it’s live".

Although this might seem strange considering how many PlayStation exclusives launch with a photo mode and how much of a draw it is for most gamers, this was actually the case with 2018's God of War. That also released without a photo mode, instead opting to add it as part of update 1.20 a few months after launch. It's unlikely that it'll take quite as long to add to Ragnarok as it did for 2018's God of War as Sony Santa Monica now has a base for the photo mode.

Photo mode isn't the only thing that was added to 2018's God of War after launch. Sony Santa Monica also updated the game post-launch to include New Game Plus, something that hasn't been discussed for Ragnarok so far. With photo mode confirmed to be a late addition, it looks like New Game Plus will also be added later, though.
