Sony Santa Monica has confirmed that God of War Ragnarok will be presented in one unbroken shot, similarly to the first game.

Although the PlayStation Showcase trailer for God of War Ragnarok showed off plenty to be excited about, including the appearance of Tyr, one thing it wasn't able to confirm is whether it would follow the first game's example and be presented in one shot.

What this essentially means is that from start to finish, God of War was presented in one full camera motion. There were never any cuts to black and never any moments where the camera would change its angle. Instead, it was almost always behind Kratos and showed his adventure. It was a move praised by many for making it a more personal journey and something that fans were really keen to see in the sequel.

Ragnarok's Narrative director, Matt Sophos, took to Twitter to confirm that the game will be done in one full shot, simply replying "One, unbroken shot like 2018" to a fan who asked about the camera.

Although it would have been pretty weird for Ragnarok to ditch something that worked so well in the original game, it's hard to tell from a trailer that is constantly switching between scenes and trying to show off all of the new things in the game.

Even though the camera technique was mentioned before the original game's launch, it was hard to quantify without playing the game yourself, although the initial reveal demo did a better job of showing it off than this trailer could. Now it's confirmed that it'll indeed be returning for the sequel.

One reason why fans were initially concerned that Ragnarok wouldn't continue the unbroken shot trend is the fact that Cory Barlog won't be returning to direct the game and is rumoured to be working on something different. Ragnarok's new director, Eric Williams, is clearly being respectful of the first game and keeping some of the things that worked so well about it, even if it's likely a lot harder to do the game in one take.
