God Of War Has Sold 10 Million Units Since Its Release Last Year

God of War has sold over 10 million copies since its release last April, according to Sony Interactive Entertainment CEO and President Jim Ryan.

Sony hadn't disclosed the game's sales numbers for quite a while but it was noted that it only took three days for it to top 3 million units sold. The game's long-term success comes as no surprise, given its immense popularity and near perfect rating from fans.

Gaming analyst Daniel Ahmad has posted a graphic showing the numbers registered by PlayStation exclusives across four PlayStation platforms. GOW, Uncharted 4: A Thief's End and The Last of Us Remastered have all hit 10 million in sales, but what's more surprising is the fact that none of these titles reached that milestone during the PlayStation 3's lifetime.

Where God of War is concerned, it's really an incredible feat. The franchise's newest title pulled in 5 million sales for the PS4 in its first month, but encouraging a second 5 million haul in the 11 months that followed has to be noted as a remarkable achievement for Santa Monica and Sony.

This is mostly down to the impressive gameplay and immersive story, but that God of War had already amassed quite the following over the years contributed to its sales massively. Of course, the price slash back in October was quite helpful too. The game was listed for $59.99 upon its release in April, however, $20 was taken off the cost on a permanent basis six months later.

GOW has pulled in countless awards as well and was voted Game of the Year for 2018 on multiple fronts.

That's not all though; a documentary was recently released detailing the game's development and the challenges therein. Raising Kratos has already attracted over a million views since dropping via the official PlayStation YouTube channel and the interest doesn't look to be slowing down.

PlayStation's newest exclusive Days Gone is doing pretty well, especially in Japan. The zombie shooter has topped the charts in the country for two successive weeks and has actually surpassed God of War's lifetime sales over there. That's nothing to scoff at either.
