A Sony spokesperson has confirmed that despite rumors suggesting the contrary, God of War is not currently in line to be adapted into a TV show or film.

There was a time not too long ago when turning TV shows and movies into video games, and vice versa, almost always resulted in a sub-par product. As has been proved by Detective Pikachu, Sonic the Hedgehog, and The Witcher, that is no longer the case. Turning video games into other forms of media is now big business, and PlayStation is very keen to capitalize on that.

Uncharted is next up on the list for PlayStation. The movie adaptation of the incredibly popular video game series stars Tom Holland as Nathan Drake, and a new screenshot from the movie was recently shown off online. Holland is one of Sony's most valuable assets right now after recently signing on to play Spider-Man in three more movies.

According to the New York Times, Uncharted is just one of ten PlayStation IPs Sony is currently turning into either movies or TV shows. The Last Of Us is also getting the new medium treatment and will be turned into a TV series for HBO Max. The show has already cast The Mandalorian's Pedro Pascal as Joel, and Bella Ramsey of Game of Thrones fame will play Ellie.

God of War is up there with The Last of Us and Uncharted when it comes to PlayStation's most recognizable IPs. However, according to a Sony spokesperson, it is not one of the ten being adapted for either the big or small screen. Twisted Metal is one, and Ghost of Tsushima is another, but the other six remain a mystery for the time being.

That doesn't mean there is nothing for God of War fans to get excited about, of course. The release of Ragnarok is presumably on the horizon, although PlayStation continues to keep its cards very close to its chest when it comes to the highly anticipated sequel. Ragnarok was supposed to be here before the end of 2021, but the longer PlayStation goes without revealing further news, the less likely that becomes.
