God Of War 2018 is an amazing game, making the ways it evolved into what we are playing today all the more fascinating.

As part of a sit-down with IGN, Cory Balrog and other members of the team behind 2018's mega-hit God Of War showcased a video that included an early cut of the game.

Among the many changes highlighted in the video is the appearance of Atreus, Kratos' son. Despite Cory Balrog's love for the shorn head, Atreus was eventually given a shock of red hair to help him stand out from other Norse characters, and even separate himself from Kratos a little bit.

Atreus also once had an even more involved role in combat - one moment in the video in particular shows him running up his father's back like a ramp in order to stab an assailant.

Menus have changed dramatically since the game was first developed. As the developers wanted to maintain the "one continuous shot" feeling, they at first didn't even pull the player out of the game for menus. If a player wanted to, for example, make an adjustment to Kratos' combat loadout, they could do that by literally manipulating runes right there on Kratos' Leviathan axe.

The game also featured many more human enemies, but that was likely because of where the development was at. Humans are the first models to be created for this kind of game, with the monsters coming later - there likely weren't many monsters to be shown off so early in the game's development.

Clearly, critics seem to be agreeing that all the changes made to the game over time worked out in its favor. Having earned accolades from pretty much every major critic, God Of War is almost certainly going to be a contender for Game Of The Year.
