Lengthy, chaotic clashes that will fully demonstrate the capabilities of the player's infuriated avatar. From man to god, Kratos always manages to impress with either blade or magic. Making his way through the entirety of Mount Olympus, many boss battles lie ahead of the player and more than one life will be required.

10 Sigrun

Optional bosses can go one of two ways, players either get a side fight that gets a little whacky or the creators see a chance to test your skills with a significant jump in difficulty. Sigrun falls heavily on the latter side of things, testing the combat skills in every way possible.

Players will have to defeat the 8 valkyrie bosses before they even get a shot at her, once you do it's time to buckle up. She possesses the skills and moves of all the previous bosses with about as much combined health. Trying to beat her is a complex marathon more than a reckless sprint to the finish.

9 Ares (GOW)

While it should be an easy conclusion to come to see as the entire franchise gets its namesake from him, Kratos fights so many enemies it's impressive one of the original cast still ranks so highly.

A combination of being very difficult to predict and very high damage hits makes Ares a nightmare to deal with. He has an arsenal of different moves, most of them powerful enough to turn the lights out. Awkwardly times attacks are his specialty, requiring the player to stay on their toes and be patient if they want to land anything meaningful.

8 Zeus (GOW 2)

The ruler of all gods, when players eventually end up fighting the god of lightning it shouldn't be a shock that he's tough to get through. Especially after the feud between the two, he's both angry and backed into a corner when you challenge him.

One of the more annoying parts of the fight is the sirens that will be attacking you as Kratos dodges projectiles, not incredibly damaging but an annoying distraction. funnily enough, it's when Zeus shrinks that you'll need to watch out for, parrying his attacks with the golden fleece as most are unblockable.

7 Theseus (GOW 2)

A good old mano a mano, Theseus wants to find out who's the best warrior of them all. Though this might seem like a trivial task on the path to reclaiming your godly powers, Theseus is the keeper of the steeds of time and you have to get through him.

While most secondary enemies in a boss battle aren't all that intimidating, Theseus can summon centaurs from Hades to help him. As players fight through the horde, powerful lightning strikes will be shot while blades of ice rise from the floor. The upside is if Kratos can make it through the minotaurs he receives generous health and magic heals.

6 Svartaljofurr (GOW 2018)

While he doesn't carry the high profile name (players will probably struggle to say it properly), The dark elf king has all the making of a nightmare boss. Unfortunately for the player, he comes hard and fast for the entire lengthy battle.

Kratos will have to deal with heavy damage attacks consistently to stand a chance. The variety of danger is what makes the fight tricky, plating bombs that will throw you into darkness and deal damage being the most annoying of the lot. Nevermind the insane combination attacks that will leave you desperate for a healing stone.

5 Sisters Of Fate (GOW)

While this is a little bit of a cheat seeing as players will face multiple opponents, the Sisters Of Fate present a unique challenge because there's such a wide variety of battle styles to prepare for. Not only the fighting but the play mechanics make it hard to keep up when the setting is changing so many times.

As long as you keep your distance between the player and Lahkesis, the first fight should be easy enough to get through. It's only when the fight returns to the throne room and you have to deal with both sisters alternating that things get intense. Having to slow down time and destroy the mirrors, players will be lucky to make it to the third sister.

4 Persephone ( GOW: COO)

She's been the icon of melancholy for so many years for a reason. Persephone has just about had it babysitting the lost souls of the world and wants to put an end to it, permanently. Kratos begins to create an issue as the servant of the gods, leading Persephone to force him to choose between his powers and his departed daughter.

While her attacks aren't the most complex or devastating, players will be in for a marathon fight as most of the attacks Kratos relies on upon doesn't affect her in the same way. The kicker will the ping pong battle that can happen when you try and send back one of her projectiles, timing is key to beating the queen of Hades.

3 Hades (GOW3)

Variety is the spice of life or in this case the thorn in your side. Just when players think they have his tactics down, Hades switches up the program. Infected by Pandora's Box he turns against Kratos after initially offering to help him in the fight against Zeus.

As much as the setting will try to pull you back, players want to be as close to Hades as possible. While being next to the hulking giant doesn't seem smart, if Kratos is at range your damage output will be low and you'll be at the mercy of his chains. The minions and ghost skulls will be your distractor and a thing players will want to take care of quickly.

2 Hercules (GOW3)

A classic tale of a jealous brother that wants the spotlight, Hercules is set on taking Kratos' title and becoming the God of War himself. You'd think being the mighty Hercules would be enough but he wants the godly powers Kratos possesses. While there are many similarities, players will have to defeat the enraged goliath and break up the family.

Players will have to dance around the stage a little in this battle, Hercules doesn't even show up in the first stage as Kratos battles his minions. A large spiked wall on the side is something to both look out for and use throughout every stage. Once Hercules appears you'll have to weaken him by tearing down his pieces of armour while defending yourself against his horde.

1 Poseidon (GOW3)

Kratos' relationship with Poseidon is rocky at best, going from collaborative to an all-out rivalry. After Poseidon's favourite city, Atlantis, is destroyed it's not hard to see why he's coming back at Kratos in full force. Instead of facing him or his array of creatures separately, you'll have to fight him in full, chariot and all.

Electricity bursts will be the main focus of the first stage, covering the whole field players will have to time the jump while defending his secondary attacks. The next stages will require the player to be very mobile, rolling in to deliver heavy attacks to the torso while avoiding the stage covering swing of his trident. Eventually prying the claws that support him away causing his great fall.
