Goku vs. Superman. The modern Clash of the Titans. Two god-like aliens who have adopted Earth as their home. They swore to protect the planet from any evil-doers who wish Humanity harm. Many villains have tried to defeat the implacable heroes. Doomsday, Cell, Frieza, Lex Luthor, and more have attempted to combat Superman and Goku. All have failed. Therefore it begs the question, who could beat the other in a fight? It is a question many a fan has wondered through the years. Could Superman's heat vision blaze past Goku's energy attacks? Who has the stronger punch? Could Goku outfly Superman? All these queries and more have been bandied about both in person and on the internet for over 2 decades.

Notwithstanding myriad efforts (most famously ScrewAttack's Death Battle video and its sequel) to hash out the results, the fan community is still divided. It's easy to see why, both sides have merit. Goku's Super-Saiyan power levels seem infinite. I've lost count how many there are at this point. Plus Goku can turn into a giant ape! He's survived the destruction of planets. Goku's Spirit Bomb can also destroy planets (assuming let it). However, Superman has some pretty strong counter arguments. He survived his supposed death at the hands of Doomsday and can also destroy entire planets, Plus the Man of Steel can time travel without a Time Machine!

But that isn't the point of this list. This list is for all the creative ways fans have portrayed the hypothetical clash of these god like characters. It's like Batman Vs Superman but without Ben Affleck and with continuity crossovers. Also it's better. So, in no particular order, here are 20 Goku Vs Superman Comics That Are Too Hilarious For Words.

20 Remember That Time When...

via yq6.deviantart.com

It's always good to start with broad strokes. This is what DeviantArt user yq6 was going for in a classic meme formatted comic. What usually happens when two god powered supers duke it out? Typically, lots of destruction occurs. What happens when they use their full power? yq6 seems to have a good answer: the end of Planet Earth. Humanity could very well see its lasts days of existence if these Super Men (pun intended) crossed paths and decided it would be a good idea to spar. Never mind the property damage or loss of life, let's just have fun and unleash more power than the combined nuclear arsenals of the entire planet! What could possibly go wrong? Armageddon, that's what. The End of Days. Not an optimal outcome from the standpoint of Us Mere Mortals.

19 Sometimes The Simplest Ways Are Best

GVS 19
via maclufetz.deviantart.com

Don't you just hate it when more complex ways of conflict resolution fails? How does one decide who gets the last cookie when the Labor Theory of Value and the Invisible Hand fall short? How do you decide who gets shotgun in the car when parental authority and/or peer pressure can't get it done? Why, you play rock-paper-scissors of course! DeviantArt user maclufetz portrays Superman and Goku deciding the victor of their fight via the simple method of paper cutting scissors. After all, when a fight ends in stalemate, what else is there to do? Bringing guns to a fist fight won't help when the fists can punch planets out of their orbits. So instead of a death battle we have a humorous exchange ending in Goku's triumph while Superman wishes he chose rock.

18 It's Okay, He'll Be Powerful Again Soon!

via archangemon.deviantart.com

In the humble opinion of this author, Superman's greatest weakness isn't Kryptonite. Nay, Superman's proverbial achilles heel is the whims of writers! I mean, he can't ALWAYS be able to just play billiards with a solar system now can he? No, it's more fun if the Last Son of Krypton is nerfed every once in a while, just to screw with him and the fans! An unintended side effect of this periodic de-powering would be the negation of any possible debate in the Goku vs. Superman fight.

If both combatants don't have powers that put Zeus to shame, then what is the point?

A brief conversation to this point is portrayed in the above illustration by DeviantArt user archangemon. Goku clearly is mad that his pal Supes is merely superhuman. Thus depriving Kal the power to single handedly end human existence. As the shorthand goes, SMH.

17 Dare To Dream

GVS16
via ckdck.deviantart.com

Daydreams are what entertain the idle mind during the dull moments in life. Everyone has them. Fantasizing of what might be is the basic foundation of all fiction. Both Superman and Goku are products of such musings, so it's appropriate even they engage in wild speculation. Artist ckdck pokes fun at this in his playground set comic. According to them, even as boys Superman and Goku played make believe with action figure showdowns.

When Superman wins in their imaginary battle, Goku uses his own imagination to change the rules.

Basically, he gives himself an unfair powerup, like kids his age are want to do. Or possibly fans twice his apparent age in the comic. That's what D&D was invented for: to give rules to playground musings. So maybe next time Big Blue and his Saiyan friend should break out the ol' d20s to decide their action figure brawl.

16 It Never Hurts To Be Nice

GVS15
via mrbda241.deviantart.com

This one seems one of the more realistic portrayals of a possible showdown between Superman and Goku. After all, they are at heart decent people. So once their sparring match was over, regardless of the result, it follows they would strike up a conversation and probably a friendship. They have a bunch in common. They are both aliens sworn to protect Earth. They are both some of the last of their species. They are endowed with god-like powers. They are kind, forgiving, and utterly selfless. This creative comic by DeviantArt user MrBda241 shows this last point clearly.

Grudges never lead to anything constructive, which the artist clearly understands.

Instead of the usual vows of retribution or whining about the fight being unfair, the two heroes find common cause.

15 Why Fight When We Could Be Friends?

GVS14
via exionianartist.deviantart.com

This comic has the similar theme of amity present in the previous entry. Goku and Superman are agreeable people, so why would they fight in the first place? DeviantArt user ExionianArtist captures this with pinpoint accuracy. The comic above uses irony to a great affect in subverting the assumptions of all fans of the Goku VS Superman scenario. The point for those fans is who would win in a fight. By ExionianArtist is more interested at poking fun at the preconceived notions of those fans.

They are both heroes who enjoy being friends more than engaging in combat.

As the band War sang in 1975: "Why Can't We Be Friends?" This comic exudes the band''s message and with it comes both humor and profound implications. After all, shouldn't these heroes be fighting bad guys instead of each other? Just saying.

14 Robin, You Fool!

GVS13
via tumblr.com

Ah, the Batman slap meme. Quite the classic. It probably will never get old. The veteran Caped Crusader literally slapping some sense into his Boy Wonder protege. It is a great vessel for comedic use and this meme is no exception. Getting in on the G VS S debate the Dark Knight betrays his fellow Justice League member and wholeheartedly jumps on the Goku Wins bandwagon. When Robin voices his dissent, Batman won't have it. After all, how can they possibly succeed in foiling the Joker's latest plot if this disagreement is hanging over them? Seeing this, The World's Greatest Detective stops Robin's teenage rebellion before it can get started and makes sure the message is clear: Goku wins. Period.

13 Willy Knows Best

GVS12
via quickmeme.com

Here is another spot on use of memes to send a clear message. Referring to ScrewAttack's main hosts (Wiz and Boomstick), Willy Wonka questions those who say Goku should have won the Death Battle.

Unlike most fans, the ScrewAttack team did serious research and analysis to come up with their results.

That is what they're paid to do, right? Take canon sources, compile powers and stats, put them all together, and pit the results against each other. So, although no one is perfect, one would think the results would be satisfactory? But people being people their own biases will blind them to facts. That's Meme Wonka's point. Look at the facts and maybe you too will change your opinion. Or not, it's up to you.

12 It Never Ends!

GVS``
via quickmeme.com

The debate. It. Never. Ends! Fans be fans, amiright? Nothing is every good enough for those entitled, good for nothing slackers! Why don't they get off their lazy bums and get a job? Why are they wasting their time debating nonsense when they could be contributing to capitalism? Okay, maybe that's going too far, but it's something that a Conservative uncle or father might say when faced with this debate. Or at least that's how I imagine the extreme version of this meme might evoke. Maybe I'm wrong. Maybe it could instead be the futility of ScrewAttack's scrupulous efforts to fairly evaluate who would win in a fight between Superman and Goku. Either way, this meme exudes meaning. Aristotle, weep for your superior has arrived.

11 Never Contradict The Rock

GVS10
via memecenter.com

When Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson gives you that look, even a baby has the sense to change their ways. Even Superman himself might lose his fight with Goku out of sheer terror after Johnson gave him a similar look. Getting a WWE style smackdown from The Rock scares me to my very anatomy.

When The Rock says Goku would win in a fight, you hide your true feelings.

You simply smile, nod, and let the subject drop. It's not worth the medical bills. Or the psychological damage. Or at the very least the disapproval of a really cool dude. That baby may be as cute as a bunch of kittens and puppies playing happily, but Dwayne Johnson is having none of it. He knows Goku would win, and that's that.

10 Collateral Damage Is Bad

via memecenter.com

This meme points out something obvious. Yet most of us, the author included, seem to have missed it. Whenever Goku defeats evil doers, there is plenty of damage to the landscape. However, the vast majority of the damage is to mountains, plains, and forests. No one besides the combatants are present. So only the participants in the fight are injured. On the other hand, Superman's brawls tend to occur within Metropolis. When collateral damage occurs, it destroys buildings and other structures. Chances are high that businesses of every size are destroyed, ruining peoples' livelihoods. Not the mention accidental deaths from the destruction of buildings and structures. Superman may not save every person, despite saving the Earth. Maybe he should work on that.

9 Wait, HE Beat Superman?

via memedroid.com

Forget Goku. Superman ain't got nothing on him. He couldn't stand up to a butler. How could he possibly win against an alien god? I'm not sure if Superman was completely de-powered, if Alfred suddenly gained powers himself, or whether Mr. Pennyworth truly can pummel Superman nearly to the end. But nonetheless, this meme still is quite funny. The visuals alone, sans analysis, are surprising to say the least.

Elderly Alfred, with his stern but kind demeanor. He sent Superman halfway to the grave? Utterly impossible! Apparently not. Okay, after copious Googling, I've found the answer! So in the Injustice Universe, Superman went all Evil Dictator of Earth mode when Joker tricked him into ending Lois Lane. Batman is reasonably mad at him, and they fight. But Bruce apparently copied a pill that grants super powers. After Clark deals with his surrogate son, Alfred takes the pill, and kablammy!

8 A Bond Villain's Favorite Weapon

GVS7
via knowyourmeme.com

So yeah, that happened. One shot KO. Kind of underwhelming, if you ask me. Apparently this whole debate has been a sham, since all it takes to incapacitate Goku is a laser. Wait, so you're telling me an old Bond villain could PWN Goku? Apparently so, as this post on anime.stackexchange.com points out. Superman could easily win, all he needs to do is get Goku to lower his defenses. Wow, that kind of seems like a giant plot hole.

A character who can blow up planets gets incapacitated by a simple laser?

So all Superman has to do is go to Goky, make a couple of jokes, give the Saiyan a hug, and blast Goku with a little heat vision? According to DB canon, yes. Hence the meme. Apparently you really DO learn something new every day.

7 Haven't You Got Better Things To Do?

via knowyourmeme.com

I really enjoyed this one. Out of all the comics and memes here, this one is truly hilarious. I feel like this is the reaction of every so-called "normal" person who comes across this debate. Many probably are wondering just what the big deal is? Why debate the outcome of a fight between two fictional characters? Even to me, an avid fan of both Dragon Ball and DC comics, this does seem to be a bit frivolous.

Why WOULD Superman and Goku fight? They are both good guys who only fight when lives are at stake. Even if one was set on a fight, the other surely would rather just chill and talk about their various fights against REAL enemies. Frieza would fascinate Superman. Goku would cringe at Lex Luthor's abuse of both power and money. So if they wouldn't fight, who cares who would win in a nonexistent contest?

6 Well, That Didn't Go As Planned

GVS5
via neodusk.deviantart.com

Full-blown fights are for normies. The REAL challenge of power is the arm wrestle. Everyone knows that, silly! So instead of mindlessly bashing each other to pulps, Superman and Goku decide to pit their arm strength against one another. However, as Murphy's Law states: whatever can go wrong, will. This comic by DeviantArt user Neodusk portrays the results like an actual photograph. Such god level powers touching would inevitably lead to the destruction of planet Earth.

Humanity can kiss its existence goodbye if these two god beings ever clasp hands in friendship or competition.

So it's probably best if the Dragon Ball and DC Universes never collide. You know, for safety and stuff. Us humans deserve to live. We made fidget spinners!

5 It's Time To Change Strategies

GVS4
via misterho.deviantart.com

Sometimes your signature move just won't cut it. The kamehameha wave may be able to blow up large mountains, but Superman isn't a mountain last time I checked. He's much, much tougher than millennia old rock. The Man of Steel is, well, tougher than steel. Artist Miserho points out the futility of using energy attacks against Superman in this comic. So when trying to defeat the exemplar of Truth, Justice, and the American Way, it pays to be creative. Maybe try melee attacks. Punch him a lot really really fast for a start. Maybe get some kryptonite while you're at it! Better yet, hire a writer to lower his power level to a point that the kamehameha wave COULD incapacitate or end Superman. Now that's a good idea.

4 It's All In The Math

GVS3
via memecrunch.com

When you get down to it, isn't everything just determined by math? I mean, atoms consist of positive, neutral, and negative particles. Just add up the different charges and you'll see how they interact. Just scale up and you get the universe. It's pretty simple, actually. So just follow the formula provided in the meme above, and presto! You've got your answer. Goku is clearly superior to Superman. Case closed. Mystery solved. Debate over. That's it.

Sorry folks, this meme trumps all those silly "but Superman can easily move whole planets" arguments.

Math doesn't lie. Inconvenient "facts" pale in comparison to simple arithmetic. So just stop. It's childish and makes you seem uninformed. Now move along while I postulate the meaning of the universe based upon arbitrary mathematical formulae.

3 Kneel Before Zod... I Mean, Superman!

GVS1
via mordecaiser123.deviantart.com

What's scarier than a fully-powered Goku? Easy: a fully-powered tyrannically evil Superman. Superman without any restraint or moral compass is possibly the most dangerous thing in all of existence. Galactus, please! He ain't got nothing on Injustice's Superman. Human life means about as much as the life of algae to Kal-El of this world.

So unlike Goku, who would never hurt anything without just provocation, Superman's threat is quite real. It's no wonder the general populace of Evil Superman's world quickly capitulated to his dictatorial rule. This meme by Mordecaiser123 explains this concept in simple and entertaining terms. It's all about the credibility of the threat. Normal Superman would never annihilate innocents. The Superman of the Injustice Timeline would do it without blinking. So unless you have powers yourself and are trained to take him out, resistance truly is futile.

Comic by Mordecaiser123.

2 The Debate Goes Multilingual

GVS2
via es.memedroid.com

The debate over who would win in a fight between Goku and Superman is so all-encompassing it's gone multilingual! For those who don't speak Spanish, here is a (non Google) translation (going clockwise from the top left): "Dad, Mom, we need to talk." "What's up?" "I think Superman would beat Goku in a fight." "I don't have a daughter!" Clearly, the young woman's parents are firmly in the Goku camp.

It's truly a sad day when the results of a fight can split families apart.

Hopefully the two parties can get over their differences and make up. It's a hard world out there, and not having one's parents as guardians, mentors, and confidantes can make it that much harder. The visuals themselves are clear no matter what language you speak. This fight causes rifts, so just don't bring it up. It isn't worth it.

1 The Attack Didn't Go As Planned

GVS 18
via gamerma.deviantart.com

Forget bombing, let Superman help! That might have been what a fictional WW2 general said in the alternate universe of DC Comics. Instead of using the atom bomb on Japan or invading the islands, the DC Universe might have avoided the mass casualties by sending in Superman. However, had the DC and Dragon Ball universes collided during the Second World War, Superman might not have had such an easy time taming the Empire of the Rising Sun. Artist gamerma points this out in their brief but poignant comic. After all, had Goku disregarded the politics of Imperial Japan and (somehow) embraced militarism, he might well have protected the islands. The epic clash many fans have imagined would have taken place not in the spirit of competition, but in the desperate struggle of war.
