The cartoon characters we grow to love tend to have qualities that make them unique compared to others. Some can be courageous and kind, while others might start off on the wrong foot, but develop so well that they become dynamic. They might even become amazing role models that we can look up to for who they are presented in the show or movie they are in. Whether it is from Nickelodeon, Disney, or Cartoon Network, the cartoon characters are just as iconic as live-action characters in TV shows or movies.

Villains are another story. They represent what is morally wrong, but if given enough screen time, they can be very complex and interesting. That is why we would like to imagine the characters we grow to love so much as villains. Even if it can be heartbreaking, the thought of it doesn’t hurt since it would happen in only fanfiction or fan art. It is possible to imagine a superhero reworked as a villain since it has happened before, but what about the princesses from Disney, to set an example?

They would be very unique if their personalities swapped as villains, and perhaps their designs would be more sinister to fit their dark side. Thanks to the awesome fan art and cosplay, we are able to witness some fantastic creations on the internet. Will your childhoods be ruined or relived with a different perspective? Let’s take a gander with some of our favorite childhood cartoon characters reimagined as villains.

23 Not Gentle Anymore

Wendy hits the right mark for being a Disney protagonist. She is kind, thinks of others before herself, and has a pure heart. So, take that and make it into the opposite, and you would get her as a villain. She is actually pretty terrifying if she were imagined as a villain. Jeftoon01’s depiction falls into his art series “Twisted Princesses” and even though Wendy is not exactly a princess, her evil version is still stellar to look at, despite being more horrific than kind.

Instead of thinking about happy thoughts, it appears that Wendy’s dark thoughts took over her mind.

She is more aggressive, brooding, and a pinch of Pixie Dust isn’t going to stop her anytime soon. It is a complete 180 for Wendy to become a villainess and join Captain Hook’s crew, but the thought of that happening is intriguing, to say the least. Maybe the idea of the mermaids trying to drown her and Tinker Bell being jealous of her probably got the better of her. The artist actually created a small summary of how he made this fantastic fan art, and let’s just say it is very dark. Check it out if you are curious!

22 Sega's Revenge

via ss2sonic.deviantart.com

Sonic the Hedgehog might have been known first as a video game character, but he would get TV adaptations that helped him gain more attention in the 90’s, 2000’s, and 2010’s. Who doesn’t love his positive personality and his love for chili dogs? He is one of the most popular mascots in gaming alongside a certain plumber. Did you know that in the first TV show, Adventures of Sonic the Hedgehog, he was voiced by Family Matters’ Steve Urkel?

With a huge fandom like Sonic, it’s no surprise that many people have reimagined this hedgehog as a villain. Does the internet sensation Sonic.exe sound familiar? It is a creepypasta that has him as the villain, and the story itself is not that good, but the fan made game helped made it scary and created a lot of fan art of Sonic being so creepy looking.

Thankfully, this fan art by ss2sonic shows him being more menacing than creepy looking. Sonic’s glare shows that he is not fooling around and he will get what he wants. Perhaps he is working alongside Dr. Robotnik? It looks like Shadow has got some competition for giving off the most intimidating stare. Heads up, if you challenge him to a race, then there’s no hope for you.

21 Muppet Gone Wild

via: heckthor.deviantart.com

Elmo from Sesame Street is one of the most innocent characters ever, whether it is live-action or animated. And yes, even though he is mostly known to be a live-action character, he has appeared in a few animated shorts, such as an episode of Bert and Ernie's Great Adventures and singing the alphabet in seasons 40 and 41, so he counts. Elmo, along with other Muppets, provide us with important education such as the alphabet and counting.

So trying to imagine Elmo being downright evil is scary, but somewhat intriguing.

This awesome fan art done by Heckthor turns him from a sweet and adorable Muppet to a vicious and frightening creature. There are, of course, other Muppets like Cookie Monster and The Count that can easily be villains due to their appearances, but Elmo? That is what you call a twist. It would be no surprise honestly since Elmo is one of the most popular Muppets, though him becoming a villain can easily make little kids cry. Perhaps for an older demographic, we can see Elmo as a villain to some degree.

There have been a lot of disturbing pictures of Elmo being depicted as an attacker, but thankfully it is all fan made.

20 Bad Dog

via: gineticz.deviantart.com

Who didn’t see this lovable pooch coming? You can’t go wrong with the classic Scooby-Doo! This Great Dane is the goofy and food loving companion of Shaggy, and together, they make one of the funniest duos in cartoon history. While he is a scaredy-cat when it comes to encountering monsters and ghosts, he manages to get the job done and in most cases, stop the masked people from getting away. Due to being one of the most iconic dogs in cartoons, Scooby-Doo has made a name for himself and will always be a cartoon that future generations will watch on a Saturday morning.

Gineticz, also known as Ginlun Ho, has made such a realistically horrific artwork of the sweet and lovable dog.

Even as a zombie, Scooby still has his love for food, though he is probably more vicious than gentle for setting his sights on the grub. Even if he looks dangerous and evil, just know that every dog has his days, and in this case, Scooby is definitely having those days. There has been a direct-to-video movie called Scooby-Doo on Zombie Island, so a dark version where Scooby gets infected and turns into a zombie would not be a bad idea. It is unlikely since Scooby is a beloved character and a good dog.

19 Welcome To Insanity

via: armelia.deviantart.com

Alice in Wonderland is one of the trippier films Disney has made, but that is what makes the movie great. Alice is a kind and likable main character who ends up being transported to Wonderland after following the White Rabbit. Based on the book by Lewis Carroll, the movie became a huge hit. Other than the Disney adaptation, there have been many that ranged from colorful and happy to intense and dark. Since Wonderland depends on the fate of Alice, who knows what could happen if she were to go mad?

This fan art seems to capture the question perfectly. Armelia’s version of Alice has an unsettling look on her face. She is relaxing, but what did she do? Certainly not painting red roses, that’s for sure. This is not the only time Alice went dark, since there is a fantastic video game series called American McGee’s Alice, which is a darker version where her family perished in the fire at home, and she was the only one to survive, only to be traumatized throughout her life.

She was not exactly a villain, but not exactly heroic either. This Alice seems to be on a darker path than the video game version of Alice…

18 Freaky Babies

via: tohad.deviantart.com

First dogs, now babies are turning into villains! Rugrats has a simple plot with the show being in the perspective of toddlers. The cartoon is very nostalgic for those who grew up in the 90’s and it has become one of Nickelodeon’s most memorable cartoons. Even with the sequel spin-off, All Grown Up!, we get to see the interesting characters grow up and experience a lot of problems any teenager would have.

Here we have Tohad’s take on Tommy, Chuckie, Phil, and Lil.

He definitely loves to ruin our childhoods while also making the babies look as if they appeared in a horror movie. His artwork just catches us in our nostalgic hearts. Apparently, there is a zombie theme going on in some of these fan arts, and it won’t be the last on this list. Having adorable babies like these four turning into zombies is a recipe for disaster. At least Angelica has something to fear if she were to see them like this. Their parents also have a lot to worry about. Not only do they have to deal with dirty diapers, but it seems that they would have to make sure that they don’t get near anyone at all costs.

17 Cul-De-Sac Gang

via: pinterest.com

Ed, Edd, n’ Eddy was a comedic and clever cartoon consisting of three boys who share the same name. Ed is dumb but has a good heart and intense love for comic books, Double D is the smart and logical one, and Eddy is the quarter-obsessed one who would do anything just to get a jawbreaker. Together, they would create a numerous amount of inventions to get the other kids from the Cul-De-Sac to pay for only one quarter. Unfortunately, it would backfire and the kids would get their money back, but it is fun seeing these boys being creative.

If these three are not getting their jawbreakers from their schemes, then they will have to use force. Due to his height, Ed can pose a threat, all he has to do is have a strong arm for throwing and punching. Eddy’s not afraid to use his brass knuckles to knock out some teeth, especially if it was Kevin’s. If Double D has his own baseball bat as a weapon, then years of being passive aggressive were just not cutting out for him. The last thing the three Eds want to do is resort to violence, but this awesome fan art begs to differ. You've got to do what you can to finally get some jawbreakers.

16 Power Hungry Saiyan

via: eric-arts-inc.deviantart.com

If there is one cartoon character you do not want to ever turn to the dark side, it would have to be the most powerful Saiyan from his universe, Goku. Dragon Ball Z is one of the first anime that brought in a lot of fans that became enthusiasts of anime, who were exposed to it from Cartoon Network, especially the Toonami block. Goku might seem goofy, friendly, and a huge fan of food, but when his friends are in danger, then the opposing enemy will be defeated. While Vegeta is the prince of all Saiyans, Goku is the most powerful in their universe.

As for Goku becoming a villain? Now that is something you don’t want to happen in your world. His Spirit Bomb is an insane and powerful attack that can destroy an entire city. Goku being a villain is one of the most terrifying ideas to be conceived, so much so that it would make the Top 10 Anime Betrayal memes a joke. Will Vegeta be able to stop him? What about Gohan and Goten? If anything, there is always hope, since they would have to find the Dragon Balls and revive him so that he can be a good guy again.

15 Under Aku's Influence

via: george-george.deviantart.com

Samurai Jack is one of the most mature and well-constructed cartoons on Cartoon Network. After all, it came back not too long ago to wrap up the story, and it was worth the wait. Jack was just a simple prince who got transported by Aku into the future where he has taken over the world. Due to the circumstances, Jack has to travel around the world until he finds the incarnation of evil and restores time. With a unique art style, writing, and compelling characters, Samurai Jack is an amazing cartoon that both kids and grown-ups can get into.

In a way, we are glad that Jack never sufficed to villainous ways to get what he is aiming for.

The artist George-George brings us fan art that looks like Jack has been corrupted by Aku himself. Or is it supposed to be Mad Jack? Regardless, those eyes show that Jack has lost all and any signs of good. He looks fierce but very sadistic, never batting an eye if he were to take the lives of those who fell to his sword. Just be sure to stay away from this samurai if he goes berserk because it will not be pretty.

14 Chemical X = Too Strong

via: tunetiada24.deviantart.com

Next up are some powerful little girls who always save their city, Townsville. Blossom, Bubbles, and Buttercup are adorable but aren’t afraid to kick your behind. Their father is a genius, but with an accident involving Chemical X, he eventually realized he created a family that would save him from time to time, but make him into a caring and loving father as well. So try to imagine Professor Utonium being a mad scientist and creating the three girls in the evilest way possible?

Even when they are evil, the Powerpuff Girls look adorable. They could be like their male counterparts, the Rowdyruff Boys, but have a punk side to them. Tunetiada24’s fan art of the three girls looks appealing, cute, but fierce. Perhaps they might not be maliciously evil like Him or Mojo Jojo, but be antiheroines leaning towards the dark side.

Trying to imagine what the three ingredients to create the evil version Powerpuff Girls is a stretch. It would have everything not nice, but what would be the opposite of sugar and spice? Out of all the heroes that appeared on this list, the Powerpuff Girls would be the least threatening, but don’t be surprised if they are more aggressive.

13 When Darkness Consumes

via: dreamerswork.deviantart.com

Talk about irony for this entry! The opening song’s lyrics start off with, “fighting evil by moonlight,” and there is an evil version of Sailor Moon among us. For a girl who is pure at heart, it is crazy how Sailor Moon can be corrupted into an evil Sailor Scout. Despite that, she looks stunning as a villainess. The art done by Dreamerswork is inspired by a what-if scenario. That scenario in question is what would happen if Sailor Moon was corrupted by an eclipse.

This is also reminiscent of Dark Sailor Mercury, who appeared in the live-action Sailor Moon show.

In the show, there are a lot of victims that were corrupted for what they desired, and it was mostly due to selfish desires, such as love, money, any necessity humans need. With Sailor Moon’s help, she is able to cleanse them and turn them back to normal whenever they are possessed by an evil entity, like Queen Beryl or Queen Nehelenia. With Sailor Moon corrupted, that can lead to bad things. It can result in Chibi-Usa from being born and the other Sailor Scouts helpless to stop her. What would Queen Serenity think of her only daughter becoming evil?

12 Taking After His Uncle

via: kris9tena.deviantart.com

One of Disney’s crowning achievements is The Lion King. The 1994 animated movie was a huge phenomenon and has great animation, amazing music, and a fantastic set of characters. Resembling Shakespeare’s Hamlet, the movie centers around Simba who looks forward to being a king, but once his uncle Scar betrays his father Mufasa, Simba is exiled until he gets older. While it is not a flawless movie, what it does well it does really, really well. Accompanied by Elton John, the soundtrack is absolutely flawless.

When it comes to villains, Scar is a classy one, but he is not afraid to get his paws dirty. Take what you will, a scenario where instead of Scar convincing Simba to run away from Pride Rock, he instead raises him and turns him into a corrupted prince. Kris9tena’s take on Simba is terrifying but drawn so well.

An evil prince is not uncommon in movies, so imagine a lion prince being corrupted by another lion for his own selfish needs. Scar could make Simba a power-hungry lion or perhaps like him too. With these two being a bloodthirsty duo, not even Nala could save her beloved friend from the evil clutches of Uncle Scar.

11 Wishing To Be Bad

via: nippo.deviantart.com

The Fairly OddParents features the formula of having godparents, but with fairies instead. Timmy Turner is just an average kid who is always given commands by his parents and babysitter Vicky. Thankfully, two goldfish turned into fairies by the names of Cosmo and Wanda. Until Timmy grows up, they would make sure Timmy is happy in a time of need. They might have been a little bit too late there.

After the many years of Vicky being cruel towards him and his parents not being there for him most of the time, who could blame Timmy for going dark? If Cosmo and Wanda are up for it, then that’s dedication right there. In this fanart made by Nippo, Timmy is invading Vicky’s personal space by stealing her diary and reading out what might be embarrassing secrets.

What is in the diary that could be so disconcerting for anyone else?

Wanda seems to be all for the embarrassment that is to be given to Vicky, but Cosmo looks unsure. Or maybe it is because he is nervous around Timmy’s dark side kicking in. As for why Wanda has a mace, it could be for dramatic effect and hopefully not violence.

10 Hades' Underling

via: thenamelessdoll.tumblr.com

Megara from Hercules is one of the most underrated female characters in Disney. She is not even in the Disney Princess lineup despite technically becoming one in the Hercules TV show. Her sassiness and sarcastic nature make her stand out among the love interests in Disney. It was interesting how she is not a villain despite working under Hades, but that is one of her definable traits. Despite her circumstances, she ends up falling in love with Hercules and we get to see her struggle in whether she should follow her heart or remain under Hades’ wing forever. So what would it be like if she gave in and turned into a villainess?

This gif of Meg is done by the lovely TheNamelessDoll, and the attention to detail is remarkable. It must have taken days just to re-edit Meg as if this was in the movie. The flaming blue hair looks fantastic on her, making her beautiful and dangerous at the same time. If she were to take Hades’ place as Queen of the Underworld, then those that reside there would be head over heels for this lovely lady. Not sure if Hercules would like that though, but he might be attracted to her regardless.

9 Worse Than Team Rocket

via: inualet.deviantart.com

As kids, we look up to Ash Ketchum for following his dream to become a Pokémon Master. With his partner Pikachu, Ash is not afraid to take on the challenges from Gym Leaders, the Elite Four, and evil teams like Rocket, Plasma, and more. After all, he sacrificed himself in the first Pokémon movie to stop the fighting between Mew and Mewtwo, and that made us cry. Even though he is still ten years old, Ash will be a staple in the Pokémon anime for the young demographic, regardless of which season we watch.

Ash becoming the bad guy would not only make us rethink our opinions about him growing up, but it would crush our hearts as well. Inualet gives us a different side of Ash we have never seen before. With glowing red eyes and a glare, we know that is it is not the Ash we have known ever since we were kids. Regardless of the outcome, Ash would go to bigger lengths in obtaining his goals. That would make even Team Rocket shake in their boots since they couldn’t seem to capture Pikachu, except at the beginning of the Diamond and Pearl series. They would be too scared to even try to attempt that plan.

8 Shego Would Be Jealous

via: KPRS4ever.deviantart.com and hotrod2001.deviantart.com

Today, Disney Channel has been running low on producing great shows. Most of them tend to appeal to the demographic of teens who only care about popularity and having good looks. In the early 2000’s, Disney Channel was on point with amazing shows and brought us one of the most beloved characters in cartoons. Kim Possible is her name and at least Disney Channel is trying to go back to their old roots with the live-action movie being made.

Kim is a normal teenage girl who uses her cheerleading abilities to become a crime-fighter alongside her best friend since kindergarten, Ron Stoppable. What if there was an alternate universe where Kim and Ron were the bad guys? That would be an interesting take on the show. Honestly, they would be better villains than Shego and Dr. Drakken.

This awesome fan art is a collaboration done by KPRS4ever and hotrod2001, and they captured this scene brilliantly. They even have blue skin to reference Dr. Drakken, showing how accurate it would be if this amazing duo were evil. If the phrase “she can do anything” tells us something, it is that Kim could become a villain if she were given the circumstances.

7 Not So Heroic Anymore

via: koujialone.deviantart.com

Danny Phantom is what you would call an older version of The Fairly OddParents. It is darker than the latter but still retains that goofy charm. The show centers around a teenage boy named Danny who is able to become a ghost and uses that to help the Ghost Zone. According to the creator, Butch Hartman, he considers Danny Phantom to be his most critical and successful work, even though The Fairly OddParents has lasted a lot longer.

When it comes to being evil, Danny Phantom got a lot more handsome.

This cosplay done by KoujiAlone screams perfection. He got the look down to a T and is just the best as this awesome superhero, or rather supervillain. If there is anything else that hasn’t been said about this cosplay, KoujiAlone could pass off as the real-life Danny Phantom. The more you look at his other pictures, the more you see how much he resembles him, and you can thank the makeup and hair.

It would be unsettling to have Danny become a villain since he has become powerful over the show’s progression. Dark Danny better watch out, because this evil version of Danny would take him down in a fight no problem.

6 Demented Duo

via: tttttengo.deviantart.com

Before his untimely passing, Tadashi only wished for Baymax to help people in the medical field. While his younger brother Hiro did become the next owner of Baymax, he tweaked the marshmallow-like robot by giving him the capabilities to fight in his program. It was definitely not Tadashi’s intentions, but Hiro managed to make it work, and that is how his team, along with his other friends, came to be. Baymax, despite being a robot, is very caring and can be quite adorable depending on what he does, such as petting Hiro’s cat or trying to copy what he said after receiving a fist bump.

Becoming villains, on the other hand, would be Tadashi’s worst nightmare imaginable.

Tttttengo’s awesome drawing depicts that scenario and while they look great, the menacing look is also difficult to bear since Hiro and Baymax are two of sweetest duos in Disney. They just have a great relationship in the movie. We probably wouldn’t want to hug Baymax after he turns evil, because who knows what he could do as a result or in retaliation. Due to Hiro being a genius, he could come up with malicious schemes that could make the true antagonist of the movie shiver in fear.

5 Fallen Avatar

via: sractheninja.deviantart.com

You cannot deny how fantastic of a cartoon Avatar: The Last Airbender is. Inspired by anime, the creators have made the best show to come from Nickelodeon. Aang and the gang, the world they live in, and the animation, are all just stellar. Aang is also a great protagonist, standing up for what he believes in, and does not necessarily enjoy fighting, but will do so in order to stop his opponents. As the Avatar, he is responsible for bringing balance to the world, and we have to applaud him for dealing with such a difficult job.

That is also what makes him a scary antagonist.

Not only is this fan art of Aang terrifying to look at (great job to the artist Sractheninja), but having the Avatar himself become twisted is something that we are glad did not happen in the show. Aang’s heart is too pure to even fall into that state of madness. He would take out the lives of everyone he loves, even Katara. The Fire Lord would be begging for mercy for even trying to step up to his game. Instead of sparing his life like what he did in the series finale, Aang would have no second thoughts in eliminating Ozai.

4 Twisted Sponge

via: emgn.com

Easily the most popular cartoon on Nickelodeon, SpongeBob SquarePants has lasted for nearly twenty years, and his voice actor managed to keep the voice of the titular character the same throughout the years! The character SpongeBob might be a bit annoying as we got older, but we can at least cherish the moments of watching the old seasons of the show when we were younger. The show is so popular that it would not be a surprise if you see it when it comes to memes and all that the internet has to offer.

So, what would happen if you take the cheeriest sponge in a pineapple under the sea and turn him into a villain?

You would get someone who is tougher and aggressive looking. SpongeBob definitely got taller, but there is just something about the look he gives off that makes us question out of fear rather than curiosity. He does look good in that uniform, we’ll give him that. Although, he might be a hitman or work for someone that does awful things. If anything, at least he is not working at the Chum Bucket.

Regardless of what the intention of this fan art is, we know that we would never want SpongeBob to become a villain, at all costs.
