Over the course of the last century, the Walt Disney Company has given us plenty of stories that have sparked our imagination through worlds and fairy tales that not only immerse us in a fantastical story, but also bring to life characters that we love and cherish. While Disney mostly produces family friendly films and characters that are wholesome and light hearted, they are still no stranger to producing some of the most sinister characters we have ever seen.

Of course, a movie’s hero is only as good as its villain. Even though we typically root for the film’s hero to overthrow the villain and squash their wicked plans, it is the villain that makes the hero's journey so memorable and shows us that even when the odds are stacked against us, anything is possible. Disney has produced plenty of incredible female characters over the years and many of them, specifically the Disney Princesses, embody all the characteristics that make someone considered a “good guy.”

Even though we love our favorite Disney heroines, there is no denying that evil somehow has an allure and we can’t help but also be infatuated with our favorite villains as they often just seem to have a bit more “edge” than our favorite heroines. But what if these Disney heroines weren’t so sweet after all? Could they not have just as easily fallen into a life of crime and evil as the traditional villains? These variations of your favorite Disney heroines will have you believing that even the sweetest of the sweet can have a streak of evil.

24 A Mouse With Many Faces

jeftoon01.deviantart.com

Disney’s most iconic characters are obviously the ones that started it all. Mickey Mouse is not only the face of the Disney Corporation as a whole, but his female counterpart Minnie Mouse has also helped to pave the way to the company’s success. While Minnie Mouse has been along almost since the beginning of animation, we have seen her take up quite a few roles over the years as Mickey and Minnie are often easily placed in different settings and stories alike.

Still, we have never gotten to see these mice actually take up the role of a villain.

While Minnie Mouse certainly does not seem like the type to have a mean bone in her body, this piece of fan art reimagines her as a whole bunch of Disney villains all the way from Ursula the Sea Witch to the most iconic Disney villain Maleficent. We definitely cannot really imagine Minnie Mouse taking over the role of any of these iconic villains, but she still manages to look the part with all the flair that the original villains did. Let’s just hope that Minnie Mouse has not turned over a new leaf and that this is just her simply picking up some new wardrobe ideas for her closet.

23 Even Her Friends Aren't Safe

AxelMedellin.deviantart.com

Cinderella may not have actually of been the first Disney Princess as that title goes to Snow White, but she is certainly the most popular of them all. There isn’t a person in the world that does not know the tale of how Cinderella broke free from her evil stepmother and met the prince of her dreams… and all before midnight as well! There’s a good reason her castle holds center stage in Walt Disney World.

Cinderella has been through quite a lot growing up, practically being forced to do the bidding of her evil stepmother and two bratty stepsisters. Even though she is a princess of kindness and empathy, you would think that she would want to get some sort of revenge for the people who did her wrong. This version of Cinderella, however, might be putting blame in the wrong places.

Rather than getting back at the people who did her wrong, she seems rather upset about the fact that she had to wear uncomfortable footwear for an evening. Taking over the Fairy Godmother’s wand will definitely have its benefits and now she has more power than we could ever imagine. But why does she have to harm her little mice friends as well?

22 An Unlikely Quartet

Chris-Darril.deviantart.com

Most people would be pretty hard pressed to choose a favorite Disney Princess and be willing to dismiss all the other ones. While I certainly do have Disney Princess’s that I’m less fond of (Snow White because let’s face it, she is such a bore), I typically can’t decide between my three favorite Disney Princesses of the Disney Renaissance, those being Ariel, Jasmine, and Belle. Though Belle might have a slightly bigger advantage than the others.

Disney Princesses encompass everything that makes a person good. They are selfless, they are kind, and they are compassionate and it is rare to find a Disney Princess that does not hold all of these qualities. This image gathers my top favorite Disney Princesses (and my least favorite one. Bleh!) but changes their demeanor quite a bit.

When did these Disney Princesses start looking so sinister?

Even though Disney Princesses can often carry a little bit of spice and sass to the table, this quartet of princesses look like they are up to no good and appear far more sultry than their typical selves. Who knows what evil wishes Jasmine has planned or who Snow White plans to feed that apple to. Or maybe they just wish to get revenge on the villains that did them wrong?

21 She'll Be Delivering The Spooks From Now On

slippyninja.deviantart.com

It has been quite a while since we have seen the likes of Sully and Mike Wazowski from the Monsters Inc. franchise and even though they did get a prequel in recent years, we can’t help but want to see more from these wonderful creatures in future Pixar films, assuming Disney hasn’t all but forgotten one of their best Pixar movies. Luckily, we will be able to see some new life breathe into the Monsters Inc. world when we get our hands on Kingdom Hearts 3.

Even though the monsters of Monsters Inc. did a terrible job as actually coming off as frightening (let’s be honest, they were totally adorable), this version of them definitely looks far more intimidating than their film counterparts. But who is that girl leading the pack of vicious monsters? Why, it is no other than a grown up Boo.

While Boo looked like a sweet, adorable toddler in the original Monsters Inc. all kids have to grow up eventually. Though I don’t think anyone expected Boo to grow up looking as savage as she does, and quite honestly, this version of her looks far more terrifying than any of the monsters we actually saw in Monsters Inc.

20 One More Chance To Turn To The Dark Side

CleverBoi.deviantart.com

It is 2018 and four new Star Wars films have come out since Disney took up the reigns of the space opera, and I still struggle to imagine the girls of Star Wars being considered Disney characters. Maybe when that Star Wars expansion at Disney Hollywood Studios opens, I’ll be more prone to accepting them as Disney characters. Star Wars has always done a good job at showing the difference between light and darkness, and this is shown best through the use of both sides of the Force. While the new trilogy certainly has brought up plenty of questions, mainly to its lead character Rey as to her origins, one question still remains at large.

Is it possible that Rey could still turn to the dark side?

We may only have one more movie left in the new trilogy that shows this transformation and while we find it pretty unlikely that Rey will succumb to the dark side, it is a topic that is certainly worth exploring. Her connection with Kylo Ren is an interesting one and it seems like the two could easily control the galaxy side by side, especially since they are two of the few remaining Force sensitive people in the galaxy.

19 This Is Always A Possibility

Manofevil.deviantart.com

We actually got a chance to see this evil version of Ron Stoppable in the Disney Channel animated series Kim Possible when Dr. Drakken used his atmosphere disruptor on him. Evil Ron Stoppable proved to be a pretty lackluster villain and wasn’t so great at actually being evil… it seems like a little bit too much of Ron’s actual personality actually snuck into his evil side as well. Of course, Dr. Drakken intended for this to affect Kim rather than Ron.

Even though we never got a chance to see the evil version of Kim Possible in the television series, this depiction of the character looks pretty spot on. Shego pretty much serves as Kim’s evil counterpart in the show, but she really doesn’t hold a candle when it would come to an evil Kim.

Due to Kim being far more capable than her rather clumsy sidekick, we can actually see evil Kim Possible being a force to be reckoned with. In fact, she would actually probably serve as a much better antagonist than Dr. Drakken or Shego themselves. Even though we prefer the more friendly version of Kim, we wouldn’t mind seeing what an evil version of the character could cook up.

18 Ditching The Fins

Knyazhye.deviantart.com

Somehow, I do not feel like the lead villain in Disney’s The Little Mermaid would work quite as well if she weren’t a voluptuous sea witch based off a drag queen. In her human form, Ursula lacks a lot of the fear and sass that she embodies in her octopus form. And Ariel taking over the mantle as the movies lead villain just seems all to bizarre. There’s no denying that an octopus is quite a bit less alluring than that of a beautiful mermaid, yet somehow, this version of Ariel still makes it work.

We aren’t entirely sure why Ariel is in this octopus get up, but you can’t blame Disney for wanting to use her original design as a mermaid rather than the lead villain. Still, this evil version of Ariel looks just as sinister as Ursula herself and I would feel bad for any poor unfortunate soul that crossed her path under the sea. She’s even got Ursula’s seashell locket that stores Ariel’s voice throughout the duration of the movie. Now all we need to see is what Ursula would look like in mermaid form. I doubt that she’s got the singing voice that Ariel had, however, and Prince Eric likely would not be drawn to the sea the same way he was with Ariel.

17 Villainy Is In The Cards

jeftoon01.deviantart.com

I keep hoping that Disney will eventually go back to the classic hand animated style that was a huge part of the Disney Renaissance in the 90s and The Princess and the Frog made it seem like there was a chance that Disney might give this classic style a chance. Alas, computer generated films still took over eventually and even though Disney has produced some great princess films since, The Princess and the Frog was one of the few that really brought me back to my childhood.

Dr. Facilier has to be one of the most underrated villains in Disney animated films and his evil spells were enough to be a worthy adversary of any Disney hero. While we all know that Tiana breaks the curse by the end of the movie and returns to her normal princess form, we can’t help but wonder what might have happened if the curse didn’t break the correct way.

In this alter version of the film, we see Tiana is no longer in the form of a frog… yet strangely enough, it does not seem like the curse was entirely broken as she has retained some of her frog attributes. It doesn’t look like the streets of New Orleans are safe with this beastly variation on the streets.

16 Not So Sweet Anymore

theboogie.deviantart.com

Vanellope von Schweetz from Disney’s Wreck It Ralph might just be one of the sweetest cartoon characters the house of mouse has ever created, both figuratively and literally, and despite her also being able to be just as sour, you can’t help but love the high pitched squeal of this pint sized Sugar Rush racer.

Wreck It Ralph just goes to show that we can take full responsibility for who we want to be and even though Ralph may have been labeled as his video game’s “villain,” he proved that he had just as much of a hero in him as he did evil. While most racing video games often lack actual villains, Vanellope could have easily been a villain.

Vanellope’s depressing backstory could be enough to turn her to the dark side.

As an outcast of her actual video game and being known as a glitch, she had plenty of reasons to want to seek revenge on the people that turned her away. Being a glitch and all has quite a few advantages as well. Sure, it might be inconvenient for her video game’s world, but she still could probably raise some chaos by disturbing her game’s coding causing plenty of chaos for the other residents. But we know that she is too sweet to go sour!

15 She's Still Got A Cold Heart

Lany19.deviantart.com

Elsa probably had a pretty troubled childhood growing up, having powers that she wasn’t actually allowed to use and being forced to isolate herself from her sister Ana. Even though the two sisters both enjoyed the use of her powers of ice and snow, they proved to be quite dangerous from an early age and she was forced to keep secret the one thing that really made her special.

Of course, forcing Elsa to keep her powers a secret almost resulted in turning her entire kingdom into a permanent popsicle.

Maybe if she were to actually be able to use her powers without hiding them, the whole kingdom wouldn’t have almost been destroyed? Of course, Elsa eventually comes to her senses and returns to the kingdom on the brink of destruction to help it out. But what if Elsa chose to further outcast herself from society and simply reigned from her own winter castle?

Even though Elsa certainly looked glamorous throughout the movie, it is fun to imagine her going mad after isolating herself from society and possibly having not just a mental shift in personality but a physical one as well. This is one version of the Disney Princess we wouldn’t want to see… but then again, maybe we’ll never have to hear “Let it Go” again.

14 She Didn't Come Back The Same...

Amanda-Kihlstrom.deviantart.com

These Disney villains just can’t seem to get it right. It seems like every time an evil sorceress or an evil queen tries to knock off a princess, the most they manage to do is force the princess into a really long nap. What kind of poison was the Evil Queen working with anyway?

Even though Snow White was seemingly dead by the films end, the seven dwarfs stowed Snow White’s body in a glass coffin in the middle of the woodlands. Apparently, the poison that was used on Snow White only put her to sleep until she was awoken by true loves kiss. Seriously, why does true loves kiss always seem to wake up the princess?

Snow White was actually “dead” for quite some time before her prince actually came and woke her up, however. Though you can only imagine that Snow Whit would have come back somewhat…. different. I mean, you don’t just perish for a year and get revived with everything back to normal. This is definitely a more twisted version of the princess we once knew and it seems her time as a corpse has had a few negative effects on her face. I guess she isn’t the fairest of them all anymore.

13 Thievery For The Wrong Reasons

jeftoon01.deviantart.com

Robin Hood is kind of one of the more forgotten Disney classics having released all the way back in 1973, though its take on the classic tale starring anthropomorphic animals instead of humans was a rather fun take on the story. It sort of makes me wonder, however, why Maid Marian was never considered to be one of the official Disney Princesses.

I guess having a walking, talking fox just did not fit in the Disney Princess line.

While Robin Hood sort of took all the glory in the film, we are pretty sure that Maid Marian could probably pack just as much of a punch with a bow and arrow as her male counterpart. Even though Maid Marian is considered to be a benevolent character, this much darker version of the talking fox shows that she can very much likely hold her own in a battle.

Whether she is really evil or not is hard to say as she probably just started taking from Robin Hood’s line of thinking of stealing from the rich and taking from the poor… but I highly doubt Maid Marian needs to be stealing gold from anyone in the first place. It looks like the law is catching up to her, however, as she is officially a wanted woman.

12 A Hundred Dalmatians Less

EduartBoudewijn.deviantart.com

You know who is arguably the most evil Disney villain of all? Cruella de Vil, that’s who. She may not have been as ambitious as some of the other Disney villains such as Jafar or Maleficent for example, but you really can’t deny that anyone that would be willing to skin a bunch of puppies just for the sake of making a fur coat is plenty twisted. I get that she loves fashion, but knocking off puppies just to look good is taking it a bit too far!

Tinkerbell on the other hand is pretty far away from being a Disney villain, working more as Peter Pan’s trusty pixie sidekick, even though she might have been pretty bratty at times. While I doubt Tinkerbell would really be one to follow in Cruella de Vil’s footsteps, this variation of the fairy shows her having just as much of a love for fashion as the fashionista does. On the bright side, Tinkerbell is pretty pint sized, so there would be no need to use as many puppies as Cruella was going to use. She might even be able to get away with one to make a fur coat, but even one skinned Dalmatian is still too much to handle.

11 Regaining The Crown

KumiSasoriza.deviantart.com

The internet certainly does lie to take a look as classic Disney heroes reimagined as their villain counterparts! We have already taken a look at a version of Ariel that resembled more of Ursula, switching out her mermaid fins for octopus tentacles, yet this version of the Disney Princess gone bad takes it a step further.

It looks like Flotsam and Jetsam have ditched the sea witch, deciding to follow Ariel instead and in this evil variation of the titular character, we see that Ariel may have already done more than what Ursula could have ever done. Ariel still seems to be making contracts with those poor unfortunate souls, but it is kind of frightening to imagine the fact that she is already wearing King Triton’s throne. What happened to the King of the sea? Had he passed away? Or has Ariel simply taken over the thrown and overthrown her father?

Regardless, it doesn’t look like there is Ursula or King Triton to answer to and Ariel is now officially crowned princess of the sea. We can only hope that Ariel would prove to be a benevolent ruler, but seeing as she is still forced under sea, it does not look like she got the happy ending that we are familiar with.

10 A Bite Away From A Monster

MetaDragonArt.deviantart.com

We all know that there isn’t a pinch of evil under Judy Hopps fur from the recent Disney flick Zootopia. Even though Judy certainly proved herself as a cop by the end of the movie, she had to go through a lot to prove to the world that she was truly capable of getting things done on the police force.

This time, however, Judy probably got a bit more than she bargained for.

Judy was definitely grateful when she actually got to go on more exciting mission on the police force, but this likely wasn’t what she was expecting. She already dealt with similar issues surrounding the town of Zootopia causing its residents to go into crazy animal behavior, yet the T-virus might be a little out of her league.

Even though this might not be an evil version of Judy Hopps per se, there is no telling how far she would have made it in the Umbrella mansion before getting infected by the zombie virus and becoming one herself. We would hate to think of this adorable bunny turning into a ravenous monster, but unfortunately, cuteness does not really protect you from genetic mutations of any sort. Hopefully, Judy makes it through the mansion without getting bitten!

9 Queen Of The Pride

dksk30.deviantart.com

Nala definitely would not be a likely villain in Disney’s The Lion King, suffering the same fate as the rest of her pride after the passing of Mufasa and the absence of Simba. Scar is actually one of the few villains to actually achieve his goals in a Disney film, completely overtaking Pride rock having overthrown the previous king and his heir. Even though Simba came back and took back the land that was rightfully his eventually, Scar proved to be one of the most malicious villains.

While Pride Rock went through quite a few changes over the course of Simba’s absence, we can’t help but think that the other lions would not have tried to overthrow Scar at one point. Nala definitely grew up to be a fairly headstrong lion, but it would have been interesting to see her team up with her pride and take back Pride Rock herself.

Then again, Nala could have become just as corrupt with power as Scar did and maybe she would have only further worsened the state of Pride Rock. It definitely would be an interesting twist to see Simba come back home only to have to fight his former best friend rather than his uncle!

8 Her Lies Landed Her In Prison

gregterry480.deviantart.com

I feel like Mulan was really the first time that we got a truly headstrong Disney heroine that was not afraid to go all out and be the confident and brave Disney Princess that we needed. Sure, other Disney Princesses in the past had plenty of charisma, but often times they were more caught up in traditional love stories that surrounded the princess archetype rather than being strong and independent. Mulan of course was all of these qualities and she still proves to be one of the most hardcore Disney heroines to date.

Not only did she infiltrate the Chinese army to protect her father, she also pretty much was the reason that China was able to be saved from the Huns. That is quite the feat for someone who had never raised a sword before.

It is too bad in the reality of things, Mulan’s infiltration into the army was highly illegal and probably would have landed her in some pretty hot water (or maybe even perishing). Do Mulan’s crimes make her a villain? Eh, probably not as her heart was in the right place. But based off this mugshot, it looks like her lies finally caught up to her.

7 Taking Over The Reigns Of The Underworld

Mistiqarts.deviantart.com

Megara was sort of an anti-hero when it came to the Disney interpretation of the story of Hercules and even though she may not be considered one of the Disney Princesses, she is still one of the best female love interests the house of mouse has ever produced. While she was never necessarily evil, she was still pretty much under the control of the ruler of the Underworld, Hades. Despite her wishes to not actually manipulate Hercules, she lacked any sort of free will of her own and in that right was somewhat considered a villain.

It would be an interesting twist to imagine her being a more sinister character, however and while I doubt she would be able to overshadow the Lord of The Underworld himself, she could still have quite a few devilish attributes of her own. This wicked version of Meg sees her embracing more of the dark side and it looks like she’s got a new pet to go along for the ride with her. Strangely, Cerberus was about twelve times bigger in the animated flick, but at least this puppy version of the three headed dog is easier to take out on walks. That’s a pack of dogs that I wouldn’t want to run into on the street!

6 Heart Of A Beast

A1r2i3e4l5.deviantart.com

Gaston was never really your traditional Disney villain as a majority of the movie he is pretty much just the bumbling, narcissistic jock that thinks that all girls should worship the ground he walks on. While his real evil intentions didn’t spring up until he tried to get Belle’s father locked up in a mental ward, you really can’t blame the guy for wanting to knock off the Beast. The unknown is scary, and let’s face it, pretty much the entire town backed him up on his plan.

Still, it was Gaston’s hubris that made us want him to fall twice as hard.

Belle is pretty much the exact opposite of Gaston and while she may be known for her beauty, it has never impacted the way she treated other people. Could you even imagine Belle actually marrying a tool like Gaston? Maybe if she did, she would not be so keen on keeping the Beast alive either and perhaps she would have just been as easily riled up as the rest of the townsfolk if she didn’t actually get a chance to meet the Beast first hand. While I’m digging her new Gaston-esque outfit, it still does not seem totally fitting for this Disney Princess.

5 She Puts The Bad In Maleficent

Stetsubi-111.deviantart.com

They say she is trouble. They say she is bad. None of that really matters, though, because all that fowl talk just makes her glad. Mal might be one of the more recent Disney females on this list and while she might not be as iconic as many of the other Disney characters on this list, if you have been keeping up with your Disney Channel Original Movies, you will know Mal as the actual daughter of the wicked Maleficent from the movie Descendants starring children of popular Disney characters.

Mal might have eventually ended up being a good person by the end of the original movie (and once more in the sequel), but that does not mean that some of her ill intentions are still imbedded within.

Hey, evil is hard habit to kick, after all.

Even though we might be used to seeing Mal in a more positive light these days, old habits do tend to die hard. I’m pretty sure sorcery is frowned upon at her Disney high school, especially for students, but this wicked girl just can’t help but to keep dabbling in some black magic. Will she turn evil again in the third movie? Doubtful, but we wouldn’t mind her stirring up a little trouble at least.
