Perhaps you've seen The Phantom Menace, with Darth Maul swinging his double lightsaber and acrobatically fending off two Jedi, and thought: 'Dang, that looks cool!'. Or maybe you've felt some kinship with the angsty, passionate Kylo Ren. Then, hey, perhaps talk to your nearest and dearest about it, but it's likely all of us harbour some Sith stirrings in our soul. If so, welcome to the Dark Side! But also this modded video game might be just up your street.
A recent video posted to the r/gaming Subreddit has been popular, generating more than a million views. Titled 'If Star Wars was R rated', the video shows a first-person view of a Sith lord fighting off a dozen or so assailants who are also lightsaber equipped. It's a gory, incredibly detailed fight, with some sick moves. It's all from the VR game Blade & Sorcery, but it's been heavily modded.
Blade & Sorcery is a medieval fantasy sandbox with well-developed physics for melee and magic, but with the right mods it can be turned into a Star Wars experience. From the looks of things, the video maker used a mod known as Outer Rim, which is available on Nexus Mods. This is a very fleshed out mod that includes custom maps, NPCs, functional blasters, and, of course, lightsabers. The Outer Rim sells itself as a "Star Wars total conversion mod for Blade & Sorcery" and has been downloaded more than a million times.
But the player who created the video is seen using Force powers and also is quite skilled. "It's blade and sorcery, also as someone who plays this game a lot, this guy is really good at this game, that is really difficult," someone commented. While a 'RaiderGuy' quipped, "The dark side of VR is a pathway to many abilities some consider to be unnatural".
But the video has to be seen as the player sticks the lightsaber through NPCs heads, jams one of them onto a saber stuck in the ground, and whips off limbs like the evil one that they are. Can you feel the Dark Side getting to you?
