Copies of Gran Turismo 7 are out in the wild a week early, but no one can play thanks to the online requirements.

Sony's next big exclusive, Gran Turismo 7, is just a week from release after many years of waiting from fans of the series. Although there's not long left to go, certain gamers have managed to get their hands on the game a week early, and it seems to be a fault of Amazon rather than through independent retailers.

Usually when a game's street date is broken a week or two early, it's clear that it's an isolated incident with just one or two people managing to get a copy of the game from small retailers. However, in this case, it looks like a lot more people are accidentally breaking Gran Turismo 7's street date, as many of the copies seem to be coming from Amazon directly.

As reported by VGC, looking on the Gran Turismo subreddit and just generally searching through social media will show a much larger-than-usual number of players getting their hands on the game early. Attached to most of these posts are screenshots of Amazon orders, with many of them showing that Amazon itself has started shipping the game earlier than intended.

There's one major caveat with Gran Turismo 7 though - it can't be played offline. As reported late last year, pretty much every single element of Gran Turismo 7 needs an internet connection to gain access to, including its cafe, single-player mode, photo mode, livery editor and more. One Reddit user reports that they were able to do "the music rally stuff while it was downloading, so three cars on three tracks" and see the opening before being blocked from continuing.

That means that although a bunch of players have managed to get their hands on the game, they can't actually do anything with it until Sony decides to put the servers live. It's a tragic fate for those who might have expected to get a head start in Gran Turismo, only to be met with online requirements.
