Details of the Gran Turismo 7 pre-order and 25th-anniversary edition have been revealed on the PlayStation Blog. While there are some nice goodies up for grabs across the various versions available, including cars, a steelbook case, and in-game credits, if you want the standard PS4 version while you wait to get your hands on the ever-elusive PS5 - seriously, it's been a year since pre-orders went live and most of us still don't have one - you'll have to pay an extra $10 to upgrade to the PS5 version.

This news comes shortly after fan backlash caused Sony to backtrack when it initially revealed Horizon Forbidden West would also cost $10 to upgrade. Although the company decided to reverse its decision for Aloy's upcoming outing, it won't be so charitable going forward. PlayStation exclusives, such as Gran Turismo 7, will all cost $10 to upgrade from PS4 to PS5. There's still hope for third-party games, as their upgrade paths will be determined by the publishers.

This is at odds with Xbox's Smart Delivery system, which allows you to play an Xbox One game on the native console, Xbox Series X, and PC, all for no extra cost - very consumer-friendly. This decision from Sony has some wondering if it's really "for the players" anymore.

Gran Turismo 7 received a debut gameplay trailer on September 9, during the PlayStation Showcase. Unfortunately, since then, fans have been getting disappointing news. An internet connection will be required to play the game, even if you're just racing the AI in single-player. Naturally, this has upset many fans as not everyone has an internet connection, and it's naive to assume they do.

So, if you want to enjoy Gran Turismo 7 on both PS4 and PS5, make sure you get one of the deluxe editions rather than the standard PS4 edition, otherwise, you'll have to shell out extra cash to play on the new console.
