Key Takeaways
- Take-Two and Rockstar have previously revealed that GTA 6 is aiming to launch in Fall 2025.
- While both companies seem confident in that, a staff writer at GTA Base has claimed that it's now aiming for 2026.
- Liam from GTABase's sources comes from "multiple devs from across two studios".
A staff writer at GTABase is claiming that Rockstar Games has already internally delayed GTA 6 and is reportedly now expecting it to release in the first half of 2026.
Considering how long we've known GTA 6 has been in development, it's more than a little wild to think that we're quickly coming up to one whole year since the long-awaited first trailer was finally revealed at the tail-end of 2023. Since that time, we've not learned all that much about GTA 6, but the one big question on everyone's mind has remained the same - when will we get to play it?
I'm From Florida: Here's What I Want From Grand Theft Auto 6
As a Floridian, I know there are just some things Rockstar has to include in a GTA game set in the so-called Sunshine State.
Although the first trailer for GTA 6 simply claimed that it was coming at some point in 2025, Take-Two would later go on to reveal that it's specifically aiming to launch at some point during Fall 2025. While Rockstar and Take-Two both seem confident about that date (despite only one trailer having been released so far), a GTA insider is reporting that it's already been pushed back.
GTA 6 Has Reportedly Been Internally Delayed To 2026
Over on Twitter, GTABase staff writer billsyliamgta randomly decided to drop a potential bombshell on GTA fans. According to Liam and "multiple devs from across two studios", Rockstar Games has already internally delayed GTA 6 and now expects it to release at some point in early-to-mid 2026.
Liam also claimed that GTA 6 will be released on PC between 12 - 18 months after the console launch, which is in line with how Rockstar usually approaches its PC ports.
As you can imagine from such a potentially big report, a lot of Rockstar fans have already dismissed Liam's claim and said that it lacks evidence to make it credible. In response, Liam stood by his report and said that wouldn't have shared it unless he was 99.9 percent sure it was true. Liam even suggests that he's been talking to Bloomberg's Jason Schreier about what his sources told him, so we might get the full story soon.
It's worth noting that Schreier did recently claim that GTA 6 getting delayed into 2026 was a real possibility and that it's impossible to know where the game is in its development right now. Considering how nearly every Rockstar game has been delayed at least once, it doesn't seem all that far-fetched.
