2019 is drawing to a close and it's time to reflect on all the amazing games that came to be over the past 10 years. The decade has brought new titles to popular game series like GTA and The Legend of Zelda and has shined a light on tons of indie titles. Games have become not just more entertaining, but more influential, and have broken into mainstream culture. The future of video games continues to shine brightly as players and creators look forward to 2020 and beyond. You can be sure that the next decade will have some real gems and some not so great games, but for now, let's take a look at some of the best and worst games of the decade, according to Metacritic.

10 Best - Divinity II: Original Sin - Definitive Edition (Score: 93)

Divinity: Original Sin II made it onto Metacritic's list of the Best of Games of 2017, and it did so again in 2019 with its Definitive Edition on the Nintendo Switch. With a Metascore of 93, it became the best Switch game of the year. Many reviewers consider it to be not only the best RPG of the year but also an amazing port.

One review, from Cultured Vultures, compliments it on "staying true to the original PC and console versions". Set 1000 years after the first game, players are a Sourcerer on a quest to become the god that the world of Rivellon needs.

9 Worst - The Quiet Man (Score: 28)

Square Enix makes some of the most beautiful and entertaining game series in the industry. They're good at making RPGs and even some of their action games are great, like Sleeping Dogs. Unfortunately, their 2018 action game, The Quiet Man isn't one of those. In The Quiet Man, you play as a deaf character called Dane.

To have players experience the life Dane lives, the game has little audio and scarce subtitles. As creative as that idea is, it only serves to make the game's story confusing. And with gameplay that some reviewers call "underwhelming" and repetitive," The Quiet Man earned itself a low Metascore of 28.

8 Best - Red Dead Redemption 2 (Score: 97)

While there were a lot of great games in 2018, the clear winner (at least according to Metacritic) was Red Dead Redemption 2. The prequel to Red Dead Redemption puts players in the shoes of outlaw Arthur Morgan and his struggle during the decline of the Wild West.

RDR2 received an amazing Metacritic score of 97, which had only been achieved by 2 other games in the five years before then. Reviewers of the game praised it for its immersive open world, and interesting and engaging characters that make the game even more enjoyable.

7 Worst - Raven's Cry (Score: 27)

There's no shortage of pirate-themed games to satisfy most sea-loving gamers who want to experience an adventure on the open seas. And at first glance, the 2015 PC game Raven's Cry seems like the perfect one to deliver some nautical fun. Unfortunately, critics accused the game of being unfinished with the number of bugs, glitches, and chunks of seemingly missing content from gameplay.

Several complained about the storyline being terrible with problematic and offensive gameplay which earned Raven's Cry a Metascore of 27.

6 Best - The Legend Of Zelda: Breath Of The Wild (Score: 97)

The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild was one of the other games that earned an impressive Metascore of 97. Breath of the Wild was the newest console game in the main series, since Skyward Sword, and left many players delighted and breathless at its beautiful open-world visuals and engaging gameplay.

Set at the end of the Zelda timeline, Link awakens after 100 years and must travel the kingdom of Hyrule to fulfill his destiny. Not only was it awarded the Best Switch Game of 2017, but it was also the most discussed and shared.

5 Worst - Road Rage (Score: 26)

Road rage can be a pretty dangerous thing if it evolves into drivers threatening others with physical threats. It isn't fun to deal with, and apparently neither is Road Rage, the 2017 PS4 game. This motorcycle racing/combat game received a dismal Metascore of 26.

Reviewers did not seem to enjoy most of the game's aspects, citing poor graphics, a lackluster story, and frustrating missions. One viewer mentioned that the game offered a lot of customization options to vehicles, but it was the only upside to an otherwise unenjoyable game.

4 Best - The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt (Score: 92)

The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt was one of the best games of 2015. The third game in the series, Geralt of Rivia is back as he's pulled into the conflict between the Empire and the Kingdoms of the North while also dealing with the ghastly riders of the Wild Hunt.

Joined by new and old faces, it's the best looking Witcher game to date and offers hours of fun. The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt and it's DLC gave fans a satisfying end to Geralt's adventures. It earned a Metascore of 92, and the Metacritic Must-Play seal of approval!

3 Worst - Ghostbusters (Score: 30)

When there's something strange in the neighborhood, who you gonna call? Probably not Activison's PS4 Ghostbusters game. Made in 2016 after the Ghostbusters reboot film, this 4-player co-op action game lets players take on 4 unnamed protagonists as they save New York. The game received a Metascore of 30 from reviewers.

The game received such a low score for boringly repetitive gameplay, poor humor and just being overall unentertaining. It was praised for its soundtrack delivering the right feelings of nostalgia but was overall a "slog" to get through.

2 Best - Uncharted 4: A Thief's End (Score: 93)

Uncharted 4: A Thief's End closed the last chapter in treasure hunter Nathan Drake's adventures. With a Metascore of  93, this 2016 game took the #1 spot for the Best PS4 Game of the Year and the Most Discussed Game of the Year as well.

Set 3 years after Uncharted 3, Naughty Dog delivers an awesome story with amazing graphics and the best gameplay of the series so far. Drake, along with his brother, take on one last adventure that takes them around the world. Uncharted 4 is also branded with Metacritic's Must-Play seal approval.

1 Worst - Agony (Score: 37)

Agony is a 2018 first-person Xbox One game that takes players to Hell. Taking on the role of a tortured soul without his memory, you have the power to control people and possess demons, which you must use to escape eternal torment. Agony received a Metascore of 37.

Several critics say that the game's concept and visuals were pretty good but were poorly executed. Bugs, frequent crashes and, according to Push Square, "frustrating stealth sections and some poorly explained mechanics", are what made Agony (funnily enough) "agony" to play.
