Greedfall was a pretty good game. It was no Witcher 3, as our own Eric Switzer said in his 3.5-star review, "but it scratches that itch." An action RPG set in an alternate world modeled after our own 17th century, Greedfall placed you in the delicate position of a diplomat trying to both install a colonial ruler while also preventing an armed uprising.

In Greedfall 2: The Dying World, just announced by publisher Nacon, your role gets flipped. Instead of the colonial diplomat, you'll play as a Teer Fradee native violently ripped from your homeland and sent to the old continent of Gacane. There you'll need to navigate an unfamiliar world ravaged by war and the Malichor plague, not to mention the machinations of various political entities. Survival will mean using your wits, your fists, and even some of the colonist's own weapons against them as you attempt to escape colonial rule and save your ancient homeland.

"While we were working on Steelrising, our love of the GreedFall universe never faded, and so we are thrilled to be returning to it," said Spiders founder and director Jehanne Rousseau. "In this new chapter, players will explore the old continent with its bigger and more diverse environments. They will meet new companions and new factions, and I hope they will have unforgettable adventures."

Greedfall 2 will be set three years after the first title and will introduce new gameplay elements and "more tactical elements" alongside its all-new story. The game is planned to release in 2024 for PC and consoles, although Nacon didn’t specify if those consoles will be current-gen or last-gen.

As Rousseau mentioned, Greedfall 2 isn't the only game Spiders is working on. Earlier this year, Spiders announced Steelrising, an action RPG set during a fictionalized version of the French Revolution. King Louis XVI has reduced Paris to literal ruin, spurning the populace to rise up against his army of clockwork soldiers. Steelrising is planned for PS5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC.
