Grounded has a happy-go-lucky aura that radiates brightly through the gameplay, despite some frightening life-or-death insect encounters. Hoops, Willow, Max, and Pete try to remain chipper and good-natured, despite the desperately shrinking hope they have of ever returning to normal size.

As you progress through the story with your character of choice, you'll notice that they often have a bubbly remark to share about their current situation, sometimes even diving into an entire dialogue if two or more characters are exploring together. Each Grounded character brings their vibrant personality to the table, and together they share some of the funniest and most unexpected lines.

10 "Hoops VS. Ladybird Larva. Ding, Ding!" - Hoops

Grounded Hilarious Quotes: Hoops laughs atop a can.

Whether you are hunting spiders or tracking down elusive termites, Hoops is always game to get into a scuffle. When she comes across a Ladybird Larva, sometimes Hoops will perk up like a boxing announcer, proclaiming: "Hoops VS. Ladybird Larva. Ding, ding!" as she enters combat.

Ladybird Larvae are no joke, burrowing under the ground and popping up to attack with their sharp pincers and spiky body. They're rather terrifying little creatures, but Hoops doesn't seem to give a hoot, as she happily jumps headfirst into any battle against the backyard's many ferocious insects.

9 "I'm Not An Actual Branch" - Willow

Grounded Hilarious Quotes: Willow looking delighted in front of the garden gnome.

Willow Branch is a gem with maturity and sensibility well beyond her years, all without lacking the youthful innocence you'd expect from a child. Upon choosing her on the character selection screen, Willow will proudly declare her name. Occasionally she will quip: "I'm not an actual branch. It's just my name."

Obviously, you are not a talking branch, Willow, thank you for that vital information. Throughout the story, Willow will remark on the severe nature of the situation, taking note of what is necessary to survive. However, despite her cool demeanor, Willow can sometimes loosen up with an unexpected joke or dry comment that makes her a delight to play with as you explore the yard.

8 "The Nose Knows." - Pete

Grounded Hilarious Quotes: Pete giving a thumbs up.

Pete is, by all accounts, a goofball with a tendency to make the occasional pun and sometimes break off into a medieval monologue. Pete's timid innocence makes him an endearing fan-favorite that you can't help but enjoy playing as or alongside.

Occasionally Pete will blurt out a quick one-liner, like "the nose knows" to break up the monotony of everyday survival. Pete is definitely funny on his own, but he combines with the other characters for some downright hysterical moments. Pete and Max have some interactions that are particularly hilarious, so try them out together for a good laugh.

7 "Is That Gnat Drunk Or Something?"

Grounded Hilarious Quotes: Max waving at a Bee while it sleeps.

Max, the resident jokester of the group is quite a handful of teenage energy as he regularly comments about insects and tries to act as cool as humanly possible. Max tries not to take shrunken life too seriously, especially when he comes across the less dangerous denizens of the dirt mounds.

"Is that gnat drunk or something? It's coming right at me," Max will proclaim as you pass by a group of erratic gnats. While there are a variety of fascinating status effects in Grounded, drunkenness is far from one of them, although Max would disagree. Take a walk past your favorite insects to hear Max's opinion on them; it'll be worth the effort.

6 "I Feel Your Pain, Moldorc. I Feel Your Pain." - Willow And Max

Grounded Hilarious Quotes: Max pointing and Willow looking on.

While each character comes up with some outlandish solo lines, some of the most hilarious quotes in Grounded are spawned through the quick moments of dialogue during the heat of your journey. While traveling through major areas like the Sandbox, occasionally you'll get some commentary on nearby map markers or locations.

As they pass the medieval sand castle, Willow and Max have a quick chat about Moldorc:

  • Willow: "He's not a monster, he's just misunderstood."
  • Max: "A misunderstood monster!"
  • Willow: I feel your pain Moldorc. I feel your pain."

While the dialogue itself begs a chuckle during the moment, it's actually quite a serious reflection. While the Frankenstein-like Moldorc looks off-putting and scary, Willow regards it tenderly, while Max is busy comically shouting about monsters in the background. Oh Grounded, never change.

5 "I'm Holding Raw Science In My Hand. What Does It Even Mean?" - Pete

Grounded Hilarious Quotes: Pete laughing in front of an oven.

Pete's perspective on the world is certainly unique as he often finds time to shout about his favorite fantasy lore, pretending he's living it. Despite veering off slightly into the world of his imagination, Pete can occasionally hit you with some good questions while you traverse the unknown.

After collecting some Raw Science, Pete may ask "I'm holding Raw Science in my hand. What does it even mean?" There are definitely questions worth asking here, and Pete is hitting at the heart of a concept that we have come to accept: what is Raw Science, and why is it floating in small pink blobs around the yard? What does it even mean? We wish we knew, Pete.

4 "Come Here You Tiny Green Sausage." - Max

Grounded Hilarious Quotes: Max jamming out under a leaf.

Throughout your days roaming the Grounded map, your character will inevitably become hungry and need sustenance and water to survive. While you hunt miniature bugs that serve as food sources, Max may exclaim, "come here you tiny green sausage!" as he chases an Aphid.

Max's eyes may see an Aphid, but his stomach sees the sweet satisfaction of a succulent sausage in Aphid form. If Pete is around while Max says this, he may inquire as to if Max is serious about eating the Aphid, to which Max replies, "absolutely." While Pete may be put off, wild boy Max is always game for some green sausage.

3 "Looks Like A Shriveled-Up Baby's Head. Or Mr. Dickerson." - Max

Grounded Hilarious Quotes: Max laughing on a high platform.

Max's light-hearted one-liners are nothing short of a gift that keeps Grounded fresh and entertaining for hours. While traveling through the sand castle and adjacent moat, Max will notice something strange, commenting: "Gross... What is that? Looks like a shriveled-up baby's head. Or Mr. Dickerson."

While he never makes an in-game appearance, this Mr. Dickerson is surely one of Max's least favorite teachers. Looking like a shriveled-up baby's head is bad enough, but that man surely did something to make Max remember him so poorly. Either that, or Max is just being a teenager; one or the other.

2 "I Was Talking To The Ants, Pete." - Max

Grounded Hilarious Quotes: Max And Pete chatting with an ant.

Max and Pete have some great adventures and even more hilarious one-liners you rarely expect. While you're out and about as Max and Pete, Max may suddenly offer a greeting, triggering this dialogue:

  • Max: "Hey buddy!"
  • Pete: "Oh, h-hi!"
  • Max: "I was talking to the ants, Pete."

Poor Pete thought that he was finally making friends – that when his mother told Pete he lights up a room, she really meant it! Unfortunately, the real world is a cold place, and Max is strange enough to try communicating with friendly ants instead of poor, lonely Pete. Keep your head up, Pete; Max will be your friend one day too.

1 "The Human Mind Is An Often-disappointing Thing." - Willow And Max

Grounded Hilarious Quotes: Max And Willow laughing heartily.

Willow's dry wit and Max's absurd comments are a match made in Grounded comedy heaven. Their completely opposing demeanors click for some hilarious moments as you mosey through blades of grass into the land of spiders and ticks. When attacked by the latter, Max will make an astute observation while talking to Willow:

  • Max: "I am the bueno and that tick is the no bueno."
  • Willow: "The human mind is an often-disappointing thing."

Sometimes Max just knows the most bizarre and unnecessary ways to say what he means, but Willow provides an excellent partner for his jovial nature as she responds with unamused, curt observations. The most hilarious moments are so impactful because of the wonderful timing and off-the-cuff feel the dialogue provides while you roam the open world. Jump in and experience these hysterical moments for yourself and see what others have already uncovered.
