When it was released in 2017, Gran Turismo Sport marked a departure from the established format of the series and a move towards challenging the sim racing market. This almost singular focus on racing not only created one of the best racing games on PlayStation but also meant the cars that were included in the game were similarly racing-focused.

Except for some iconic vehicles, most of the cars in GT Sport are race cars or at the very least the most powerful version of any given streetcar. Thanks to this GT Sport features some of the fastest cars to date along with concept cars created by various manufacturers. And if you're going to be the fastest on track, you need to know what machinery is the best to use.

Updated July 20, 2022, by Rebecca Timberlake: GT is the racing fan's go-to for fast and attractive cars. Finding the fastest car in Gran Turismo Sport, with a style that feels comfortable for you on the track, can be a tough issue. After studying the stats and how the best cars perform, there are plenty of viable options — and we've added even more for your consideration.

13 Pagani Huayra '13

GT Sport Pagani 2013

The Pagani Huayra is a turbo car with 730 horsepower. It can go zero to 60 mph in 2.8 seconds, and it'll top out at 238 mph. It's easily in the top ten fastest cars in GT Sport, and handles delicately. It has a sleeker design than some other cars you can buy for your garage, making it more enjoyable to watch as it takes the turns of the track.

You'll have to grind a bit more to get the Huayra for your own, and you'll find it in the Pagani dealership with a price tag of 1,350,000 credits.

12 Peugeot 908 HDi FAP '10

11 GT Sport Peugeot 908 HDi Fap

Peugeots are frequent fan-favorites in all racing games for good reason. This particular Peugeot runs at 700 horsepower with twin turbo aspiration. You can get it to top out at around 212 mph. The zero-to-60 is comparable to other racecars in GT Sport, but the exact number can vary based on how you customize yours.

This car was built for endurance races, so in terms of speed and handling, it's been perfectly engineered. To add the 908 HDi to your garage, you'll need 1,000,000 credits to buy it from the Peugeot section of the dealership.

10 Mazda 787B '91

Gran Turismo Sport Mazda 787B '91

Now more than thirty years old, the Mazda 787B is by far the oldest car on this list, but that only makes it all the more impressive. This nineties prototype made a name for itself by competing at the Le Mans 24 hours under the Group C regulations and winning, before promptly being banned for the following year.

And like all Group C cars, the 787B is built for straight-line speed which means it will easily carry its driver to over 210mph on the straights. So if you're being left behind in a straight line, consider taking a seat in this Japanese icon to solve that problem. And if that's not a problem then just enjoy taking this icon for a drive in one of the most realistic racing games around.

9 Audi R18 (Audi Sport Team Joest) '16

Gran Turismo Sport Audi R18 Audi Sport Team Joest '16

The Audi R18 was added to GT Sport in the 1.06 update, allowing players access to the quickest LMP1 car in the game. With hybrid power to increase acceleration out of corners and plenty of downforce to keep it on the road, the R18 will make short work of its competitors in the technical sections of any track.

It might lack a little in straight-line speed compared to some cars on this list but being the fastest doesn't always mean the highest top-speed. The R18's strength as an all-rounder means it can be used to produce lap times that would leave more powerful cars in awe.

8 Bugatti VGT

Gran Turismo Sport Bugatti Vision Gran Turismo

Inspired by the road-legal Bugatti Chiron, the Bugatti VGT is a concept car that has everything turned up to 11. Its aggressive aero and styling make it an imposing presence even amongst the other Vision cars found in the game.

But if there's one thing Bugatti is known for, it's power, and the Bugatti VGT doesn't disappoint. With 1,627 horsepower, the Bugatti VGT is the second most powerful car in GT Sport and is capable of a top speed of over 290mph. The only thing holding it back is its weight of over 3,000lbs which hurts the car's ability to brake and turn through corners, not that it matters in a car this powerful.

7 Gran Turismo F1500T-A

Gran Turismo Sport Gran Turismo F1500T-A

Created by the Gran Turismo team themselves, the F1500T-A is a tribute to the turbo-powered monsters that dominated Formula 1 in the 1980s. With a uniquely retro styling unlike anything else in the game, this car isn't just one of the fastest in the game, but also one of the best looking.

Its turbocharged V6 engine makes 986 horsepower and revs to over 11,000rpm, all in a car that weighs just over 500kg. So if you can handle the challenge of driving a car that is full of oversteer and turbo lag, then step into the F1500T-A and enjoy one of the fastest and most enjoyable driving experiences GT Sport has to offer.

6 Super Formula Dallara SF19

Gran Turismo Sport Dallara SF19 Super Formula Honda '19

Japan's Super Formula series is one of the premier single-seater racing series in the world, with cars reminiscent of Formula 1 machinery. And while they can't quite match their F1 counterparts, Super Formula cars are much more aerodynamically stable meaning they can be pushed to their limit more easily.

This makes them a perfect way to learn how to drive single-seater cars in GT Sport. They also feature an overtake button that delivers additional power for a limited time during the race, facilitating a more tactical driving experience than other cars on this list.

5 Mazda LM55 VGT (Gr.1)

Gran Turismo Sport Mazda LM55 Vision Gran Turismo Gr.1

Mazda's Vision Gran Turismo car is an oddity. It comes in two versions, one is the standard LM55 VGT and the other is the car featured here, the Group 1 specification LM55 VGT. The Group 1 specification is designed to compete in that category of racing and so has around 150 horsepower less than the standard version but more downforce.

The result of this is the Group 1 specification LM55 is practically glued to the road no matter the speed, and as a result, frequently posts lap times far better than its unrestricted counterpart. Whether this was intentional or not is unclear, but it does make this supremely fast car, a little quirkier than many of the others in the game.

4 McLaren Ultimate VGT

Gran Turismo Sport McLaren Ultimate Vision Gran Turismo

The McLaren Ultimate VGT certainly does its best to live up to its name. It produces 1,134 horsepower, making it the fourth most powerful car in GT Sport, so a little short of being the ultimate in that department but the unique styling that generates a huge amount of downforce does help to compensate for this particular shortcoming.

But possibly the most notable feature of the car is one that often goes unnoticed and that is the driver position. Unlike every other car in the game, the driver of the McLaren Ultimate VGT sits as though they are riding a motorbike in the cockpit of the car making for an unusual sight, particularly when watching back replays.

3 Mercedes-AMG F1 W08 EQ Power+ '17

Gran Turismo Sport Mercedes-AMG F1 W08 EQ Power+ '17

The Mercedes-AMG W08 is the Formula 1 car that took Lewis Hamilton to his fourth world championship in 2017 and is also the last championship-winning car in F1 to not feature the halo safety device. It is also only the fourth licensed F1 car to feature in a Gran Turismo title.

With almighty amounts of downforce, this is a car capable of taking even the most threatening of corners at full throttle. And on the topic of full throttle, the car is powered by a V6 turbo-hybrid engine meaning you get all the power of a turbocharged V6 as well as the instant torque of an electric motor. This makes for one of the fastest cars in the game, but only once you master the art of shifting through so many gears at every corner, something that is almost impossible if you play with a controller.

2 Gran Turismo Red Bull X2014 Standard '14

Gran Turismo Sport Red Bull X2014

The Red Bull X cars first appeared in Gran Turismo 5 and have evolved in the following years. And while the X2019 is the most recent iteration, the X2014 is the car that posts the fastest lap times. Like all race cars, the higher the speed, the more downforce is being generated, but there's no car where this effect is more apparent than the X2014.

This car encourages you to accelerate through corners, using the brakes as little as possible simply to ensure that you don't overshoot the turn-in point. the design of the interior is suitably futuristic to match the exterior styling, so you'll really feel like you're driving the pinnacle of aerodynamic design. But even that isn't even enough to claim the title of the fastest car in GT Sport.

1 Dodge SRT Tomahawk X VGT

Gran Turismo Sport SRT Tomahawk X Vision Gran Turismo

Dodge's Vision Gran Turismo car sets the standard for Vision cars. The SRT Tomahawk X VGT is the most powerful car in the game, producing 2,586 horsepower which is nearly 1,000 horsepower more than the second place Bugatti VGT. This ungodly amount of power is paired with a unique set of aerodynamic panels that emerge from the body of the car to generate extra downforce making it one of the coolest cars in any game.

When the car reaches 267mph these panels retract, allowing the car's smooth bodywork to move through the air with little resistance to achieve top speeds over 400mph. So while the Red Bull X2014 might be able to match it through the corners, it will be left behind on the straights, crowing the SRT Tomahawk X as the fastest car in the game.
