Rockstar has now confirmed when GTA's remastered trilogy will arrive, adding news on when individual titles will be available via various subscription services.

No matter how much is leaked ahead of time, getting any information out of Rockstar as it pertains to upcoming titles is like getting blood from a stone. Multiply that experience by ten for anything related to GTA. Even after multiple pieces of info about the remastered trilogy made it out into the wild, once Rockstar caved and confirmed it was real, it revealed literally nothing beyond that.

Fast forward a few more weeks and the studio has finally let the entire cat out of the bag. Footage and screenshots of the game are now officially out there for all to see, and it looks pretty damn good. So good that the fact it will cost $60 doesn't seem to be bothering many people just yet. Perhaps that's due to the fact Rockstar has also announced certain elements of the collection will be available through subscription services.

The remastered version of GTA 3 will be on PS Now starting on December 7, 2021. Yes, it will only be the first third of the trilogy for the time being, and you will have to wait almost a month after The Definitive Collection drops to play it for free. It will also be the PS4 version of the game, even if you play it on PS5 which is par for the course when it comes to PS Now.

It does feel a little bit like PlayStation got the raw end of the deal here. Xbox Game Pass is also getting something from the GTA trilogy. San Andreas, which many would argue is the better game when directly compared to GTA 3. What's more, the remastered version of San Andreas will be available to play through Game Pass from November 11, the same day the full trilogy goes on sale.

It's better than noting for PS Now subscribers, of course, and the games being split this way also suggests they will be available to buy separately in the future. Rockstar is yet to confirm if that will ever be the case, but all of the above makes it seem likely. It's also unclear whether Vice City's remaster will be offered up to a third service at some point before the end of the year. As of right now, the only way to play it will be by buying The Definitive Collection.
