Quarantine has resulted in the gang warfare between GTA Online's green aliens and purple aliens getting way out of hand.
As this generation of consoles heads into its final stretch, there's been one constant ever since it all began: Grand Theft Auto V. The game has remained incredibly popular on PlayStation 4 and Xbox One throughout both consoles' lifetimes. It might very well be one of the reasons why Rockstar seems to be in no hurry to reveal details about GTA VI – if the sequel even exists at all at this point.
The creativity of GTA V's millions of players has been the driving force behind the game's continued relevance. No two sessions playing GTA Online are ever the same, not if players don't want them to be. However, many people playing online may be noticing the same thing during all their visits lately – large groups of either purple or green aliens amassing around Los Santos.
It's hard to pinpoint when and how this all started, with Polygon reporting that players might have started dressing as green aliens back in 2019. However, it has definitely escalated during quarantine. TikTok commentator nekoztek, where a lot of the alien clips are gaining traction, claims 14.2 million have sided with Team Green, while 7.2 million people have joined Team Purple.
The aim of the green aliens is to cause as much havoc as possible. Most videos show them targeting random people in their lobby and beating them with baseball bats. Enter the purple aliens, who have taken it upon themselves to try and protect the citizens from Los Santos. That has resulted in all-out wars taking place between green and purple aliens with some pretty hilarious results.
As the lockdown and GTA V's popularity continues, there doesn't appear to be any end in sight to this battle between good and evil, green and purple, attackers and protectors. It has even leaked over into other forms of media. Different variations of green versus purple have been showing up on Twitter, Instagram, and elsewhere. As far as we can tell, whether the poster knows it or not, the trend started with GTA's epic alien war.
