GTA Online is adding a new cooperative game mode called Double Down that lets you either play as Franklin and Lamar or go up against them.
Last December saw the release of GTA Online's biggest expansion yet - The Contract. Not only did it introduce tons of new content, but it also saw the return of Franklin and Lamar through new missions that essentially act as an epilogue to GTA 5. The new expansion also featured some missions, called Short Trips, that let players have an out-of-body experience and play as either Franklin or Lamar.
The ability to play as Franklin and Lamar, minus the out-of-body element, is making a return in GTA Online through a new co-op activity called Double Down. Rockstar announced the new mode through a new blog post on the Rockstar Wire, detailing how to access the mode and revealing what players will be doing in it.
The post reveals that players can either control Franklin and Lamar, or go up against them as their own created character, "Double Down — a new cooperative Adversary Mode where you can play as Franklin and Lamar surviving a brutal onslaught in close confines — is available to play now in GTA Online. Work together and use the arsenal of weapons at your fingertips to dispose of the attackers blasting at you with Double Barrel Shotguns. Then, flip the switch and try your hand at attacking the duo as they desperately defend their turf".
As Rockstar often does for new game modes, it also confirmed that several bonuses will be made available for those who try out the mode, "Whether you’re holed up in a train yard fighting for your life as Franklin and Lamar, or making a frenzied run at them, both teams earn 3X GTA$ and RP for playing Double Down. Just participating in a round will even net you a lump sum bonus of GTA$200K (delivered within 72 hours)."
