Heists are a huge part of GTA Online and a great way to earn big money. Here's how to get started in the game's lucrative heist scene.

Although Grand Theft Auto V's online element started busy and has remained that way for its entire run, the streets of Los Santos are busier than ever right now. That's due to the fact Epic Games offered GTA V for free last week. So many people took Epic up on the offer that the online store crashed. Honestly, we thought everyone who wanted GTA V would have owned it by this point.

Players just starting out in GTA Online will need one thing more than anything else to help get them started in what is a very competitive world: money. One of the best ways to get that money is by performing heists. Dangerous missions groups of players can undertake which are high-risk, but very high-reward.

The trouble is, players can't fire up GTA Online for the first time and step straight into a heist. Nor should they as chances are if they have never played the game before, that heist will end poorly and violently. New players will first need to reach rank 12 and also own a high-end apartment. Once those two requirements are met, they can plan their own heists.

Having to own a high-end apartment might seem counter-productive to some. However, the heist needs to be planned somewhere. Players can't exactly whip a whiteboard out and start laying out their devious plan on the sidewalk now, can they? Once those two requirements are met, players will receive a call from Lester with details on how to set up the first of many big jobs.

After that first job is completed, players will have the luxury of choosing from whatever exciting heist options GTA Online has to offer at any given time. Rockstar cycles them in and out so even if players have completed everything the game has to offer heist-wise, new ones will show up with each passing update. As we said, completing them pays big money, but they are not easy to do by any means.
