Not only will you soon be able to re-experience San Andreas on new-gen consoles, but you'll also be able to step into the world in VR via the Oculus Quest 2.

Rockstar has a lot of GTA irons in the fire right now. There's even an outside chance one of them is GTA 6. The series is a cash cow for the studio as has been demonstrated by GTA 5 which has now sold 150 million copies and counting. The focus has shifted to GTA's past somewhat in recent months though, and it turns out the announcements weren't over in that regard.

It was revealed during today's Facebook Connect event that GTA San Andreas is getting the VR treatment. A virtual reality version of the iconic PS2 game is being recreated from a whole new viewpoint for the Oculus Quest 2 and has apparently been in the works for years. There was no timeline given on when it will arrive or how much it might cost.

VR is an all-new frontier for the GTA series, and it's interesting that San Andreas is the first game Rockstar is giving that treatment. The much more engaging way of playing games is getting more and more attention as of late. That's thanks to Facebook's Oculus headsets and also PlayStation's focus on VR. PlayStation has revealed it is working on the next generation of its VR and it could launch in time for the 2022 holiday season.

As for GTA, despite the brief break to reveal San Andreas is getting the VR treatment, it will be all steam ahead for the remastered trilogy for the next few weeks. The Definitive Edition launches digitally on November 11, followed by a physical release on December 7. Screenshots of the games comparing them to the originals were revealed last week and look pretty impressive, but not everyone is convinced.

Beyond that, Rockstar has the new-gen launch of GTA 5 to look forward to. Almost nine years after it was first available on PS3 and Xbox 360, one of the best-selling games of all time will officially arrive on PS5 and Xbox Series X|S. A lot to look forward to for GTA fans, regardless of what you play your games on.
