A former employee of multiple major developers, including Rockstar, doesn't think Grand Theft Auto VI will be hitting store shelves until the tail end of 2021.

It was recently revealed that Grand Theft Auto V was the best-selling game of the 2010s. Honestly, that was probably the least surprising news of the past decade, too. GTA V has become the third best-selling game of all time, shifting 115 million copies and counting. Only Minecraft and Tetris have managed to sell more copies up until this point in time.

The game has been in the top ten best-sellers each week since its release all the way back in 2013. That's why Rockstar continues to ride its wave of popularity, and who can blame it? Nevertheless, gamers are adamant that GTA VI is coming. Although nothing has been confirmed or reported by Rockstar, there are more rumors online that we can shake a stick at.

Time to add another one into the mix. Darion Lowenstein, a former employee of Rockstar, recently divulged to Jeffries, an equity research firm, what he thinks about GTA VI's potential release date (via Daily Star). Despite talk of the game entering the fray alongside the new generation of consoles later this year, Lowenstein thinks fans of the franchise will have to sit tight for another year on top of that, at least.

Lowenstein highlighted that the team at Rockstar focuses on quality rather than deadlines, something that is evident from almost all of the company's games. That might mean even that Rockstar doesn't know when GTA VI will be released, hence why it's telling fans absolutely nothing about the game. There's even a chance the game doesn't even exist. Since Rockstar has already revealed that it has GTA Online plans mapped out until November 2020, it seems likely that all of their focus remains on GTA V.

For those hoping for even the tiniest piece of news as to what's next, Lowenstein had an annoying prediction. Not only does he believe the end of 2021 is the earliest possible release date for GTA VI, but that rumors of a trailer dropping in February are also unfounded. Players will have to keep themselves occupied with GTA V for now, but considering the plans Rockstar has for the game, that shouldn't be a problem.
