Guild Wars 2: End of Dragons brought tons of new content to the MMORPG that fans had been clamoring for, like a fishing mechanic and a new mount: the Siege Turtle! These can be ridden by two players, with one person driving and another person attacking.
To get the Siege Turtle, you'll need to go through a multiple-step process: reaching Arborstone and the Echovald Wilds, getting your Turtle Egg there, and then completing an achievement chain. We'll review the process in this article!
Updated May 10, 2022 by Belle Huston: There have been some minor changes to the process of acquiring a Siege Turtle, so this guide has been updated to reflect that. We've also expanded on the item collection section of the process so that you know exactly where to go to track down these special items.
Step 1: How To Get To Dragon's End
You can access Dragon's End through the Echovald Wilds map. Just head to the far east and travel through the portal near the Jade Gate Waypoint.
Step 2: Obtaining Your Turtle Egg
There are two ways that you can acquire a Turtle Egg in-game, which will start you on your journey towards the Siege Turtle mount.
Complete The Battle For The Jade Sea
First, you can obtain a Turtle Egg for free by completing the meta event in Dragon's End, called 'The Battle for the Jade Sea.'
Unfortunately, in order to get the turtle egg this way, your map needs to win the entire event and defeat the final boss. At the time of this writing, that's a very hard feat and players lose more often than they win. ArenaNet has said that they are planning to change the event soon. So, don't get discouraged if you work through the event only to fail - it's not just you, and it's probably not your fault.
If you do want to try your hand at the meta, though, check in the LFG system for groups that are well-organized and actively trying to complete the meta, rather than just hanging around until it starts.
Buy The Egg From A Peddler
Second, if you're willing to spend all your hard-earned Writs of Dragon's End, you can also buy the Turtle Egg from a Peddler. There are two in Dragon's End; one in the far south and one in the far north, as shown above. They are marked by an Imperial Favor icon on your map.
A Turtle Egg costs 200 Writs of Dragon's End. These are earned by participating in events in the titular map, so it'll take a while for you to collect the necessary amount but it won't be unreasonable.
Step 3: 'Turtle Unlock: Starting Small' Achievement
Once you have a Turtle Egg, it will unlock a new achievement called 'Stomping Around.' This is the overarching achievement that all other Siege Turtle collection achievements are found under.
Take The Turtle Egg To Rota
The first thing to do is take your egg to Arborstone where an expert, Rota, can help you hatch it. She's outside, between the entrance to Arborstone and the entrance to Club Canach, and is marked by a turtle icon, so she's very easy to find.
After a brief conversation with her, you'll hand over the egg and start the first achievement: Starting Small!
Collect Veggies For Your Turtle
The first achievement, Starting Small, asks you to collect food for your turtle. You'll need to collect raw ingredients and give them to a little mech called 'Fidget' (which is found next to the tree standing across from Rota in Arborstone).
Collection Item |
Raw Ingredients Needed |
---|---|
Box of Chopped Kale |
|
Pack of Chopped Carrots |
|
Pile of Chopped Lettuce |
|
Bowl of Chopped Strawberries |
|
You could farm these ingredients out in the open world but, considering how many you'll need, your best bet is probably to purchase them in bulk off the Trading Post.
Step 4: 'Turtle Unlock: Getting Stronger' Achievement
Check-In With Rota
Return to talk to Rota after finishing the first part. She'll give you your next goal: to collect more food!
Collect Fish For Your Turtle
The second achievement, Getting Stronger, is much like the first - you just have to collect ingredients and give them to Fidget. This time, you'll be looking for fish!
Collection Item |
Raw Ingredients Needed |
---|---|
Bowl of Chopped Fine Fish |
|
Bowl of Chopped Fabulous Fish |
|
Bowl of Chopped Flavorful Fish |
|
Bowl of Chopped Fantastic Fish |
|
This achievement is a great excuse to go fishing, which may be a mechanic that you've been too busy to take advantage of! It doesn't require nearly as many ingredients as the previous achievement, but you can still buy the fish fillets off of the Trading Post if you'd rather not be bothered to do all that fishing.
Step 5: 'Turtle Unlock: Suiting Up' Achievement
Check-In With Rota
Return to Rota after finishing the second achievement. She'll give you the 'Suiting Up' achievement, which is the real bulk of the process of getting a Siege Turtle.
The third and last achievement requires a bit of running around. It's a collection achievement where you'll have to hunt down items by completing certain events and challenges in Cantha. There are eight in total.
Getting The Turret Plans
Hint: Purchased from Elora in New Kaineng City
The Turret Plans are easy to acquire, but they are a little costly. You purchase them from Elora in New Kaineng City. If that names sounds familiar, it's because you visited her during the story to get used to your jade bot.
You must have finished her Renown Heart in order to access the items she offers. The Turret Plans cost 16 gold and 7,000 karma.
Getting The Thruster Plans
Hint: Purchased from a tengu spy in Echovald Wilds.
Just like the Turret plans, you purchase the Thruster Plans from a Renown Heart Vendor. It's the Tengu Spy who's lurking outside the Jade Brotherhood's headquarters.
Like last time, you need to finish the Renown Heart before you can purchase the Plans. It costs 16 gold and 7,000 karma.
Getting The Saddle Color Selection
Hint: Unidentified dye can be purchased from the trading post.
In order to acquire the Saddle Color Selection, you need to collect 25 Unidentified Dyes and give them to Fidget (the mech near Rota) in Arborstone. There are natural ways to acquire Unidentified Dyes, but the simplest method is to buy them on the Trading Post. They don't cost very much.
Getting The Luxon Tools
Hint: Obtained from the remnants of the Jade Maw in Dragon's End.
You get the Luxon Tools as a reward for killing a special enemy in Dragon's End: the Jade Maw. It's found in the Miner's Folly region, and spawns on even hours (UTC) at xx:05 and xx:45 so long as The Battle for the Jade Sea is not happening.
Getting The Turret Power Unit
Hint: Obtained from the Aetherblade Renyak in Seitung Province.
To obtain the Turret Power Unit, you'll need to complete the meta for the Seitung Province map. The final boss is Renyak, an Aetherblade, and you'll get the Turret Power Unit when he's been defeated.
Check the timer on the Guild Wars 2 wiki to see when the event will happen next; it restarts every couple of hours. Then, when you're ready to participate in the meta, check your LFG panel for groups that are organized and running it. Cooperation is key; you don't have a chance on your own.
Getting The Deluxe Leather Seating
Hint: Ripped from the gullet of a mighty leviathan off the coast of Seitung Province or New Kaineng City.
To obtain the Deluxe Leather Seating, kill an Adolescent Leviathan. You'll do this during a special event called 'Fend off the leviathan' in either Seitung Province (in the Seitung Harbor) or New Kaineng City (at the Kaineng Docks). We've depicted the one in Seitung Province above.
Either way, if the event isn't already active, look for an NPC nearby called Fahd al'Eshadhi. He's a largos, which makes him stand out, but he should also be marked with an orange symbol. Fahd al'Eshadhi activates the event. Be sure to have at least a small group together before you take on this beast.
Getting The Alleola Oil
Hint: Obtained by helping Doireann gather sap within Echovald Wilds. Derived from alleola sap gathered from the Forever Tree of Echovald Forest.
The Alleola Oil is derived from a special tree, so you need to track one down. Luckily, Doireann, a Sylvari who tends to one such tree, will give you this oil if you help her collect sap. Doireann can be found in the south of the Echovald Wilds, right in the centre of the bottom of the map.
The event you need to complete is entitled: 'Collect sap for the restoration ritual before the plants stop producing it.' It's not a very difficult event, but you should keep in mind that there's an invisible timer and you need to complete it quickly. If the event isn't active when you find Doireann, just wait around; it restarts every 20 minutes. After it's completed successfully, you'll get your Alleola Oil.
Getting The Thruster Control Unit
Hint: Obtained in the Ministry of Security Strike.
The final component, the Thruster Control Unit, may be the most intimidating to get if you're not an experienced Guild Wars 2 player. It requires you to complete a Strike Mission. These are special PvE instances where you (usually) fight one or more bosses with a team of ten players. They were created as a way to bridge the experience gap between most of the open-world game, which is pretty simple, and the raids, which are very difficult.
The Strike Mission you need to do is called 'Strike Mission: Kaineng Overlook.' You can access it by going to the Strike Mission Portal in Arborstone. To find a group for the Strike Mission, you can join or create a group in the LFG menu. However, if it's your first time, we recommend trying to play with members of your guild, or joining a guild that's dedicated to teaching players the mechanics of Strike Missions (yes, they exist!).
Step 6: Get Your Turtle Buddy!
Once you've acquired all the items for the achievement, return to Rota one last time!
Before you know it, you'll be riding your very own Siege Turtle!
