The megaserver is Guild Wars 2's unique solution for allowing players on different servers to play together. With the megaserver, rather than separating maps into instances based on the player's server, maps are open to players of all servers. You can freely play with friends, guildmates, and other players on different servers.

Grouping with players on other worlds has never been easier. However, if you still find yourself wanting to change your server, this guide will teach you how. Let's take a look at why you would want to change your server, how to do it, and what it costs.

Should You Change Servers?

Because of Guild Wars 2's megaservers, all players will appear in the same world as their region (NA or EU). In all content types, except for WvW, you will be able to play with your friends or other players regardless of which server they are on.

However, there is still one reason you may want to change your home world: World Vs. World. Your current team in WvW battles is dependent on which servers are currently linked together. Linked servers change every two months, and which servers are linked together depends on their current rank in WvW and their population.

Because of this, it may take a while for two servers to be linked together, or they may never be linked together. In this case, you may wish to transfer your server.

How To Change Your Server

To change your server, first log out of the game to the character select menu. Here, select the World Selection button next to the Log Out button on the bottom left of the screen. This will bring up a list of all servers, their location (America or Europe), and their current population. Select the world you wish to transfer to, and you will be asked to pay the transfer fee.

You can only transfer to servers that are not currently full. If the server you want to transfer to is full, try again in a while.

Cost Of Transfering Servers

Transferring your server will cost gems, the amount depending on the population of the server you are transferring to.

  • Transferring to a Medium population world: 500 gems
  • Transferring to a High population world: 1000 gems
  • Transferring to a Very High population world: 1800 gems

You will only be able to change your server once every seven days, and you won't be able to earn pips in WvW until two WvW resets have occurred. This means you will need to wait a maximum of two weeks to start earning pips again in WvW.

Guest Transfer

Rather than transferring your home world, you can use the guest transfer system to temporarily change your server to another. However, guesting on a different world will not allow you to engage in WvW, and you can't guest to EU if your home world is on NA, for example. Because of these two factors, there is little reason to ever use this system.
