When you first visit the Crystal Oasis in Guild Wars 2: Path of Fire, you will get your very first mount. Your raptor mount will have associated masteries and achievements that can be completed as you explore the desert. One achievement that you will now be able to complete with your new mount is Reins of the Raptor.
Reins of the Raptor is an achievement that requires you to collect five items; one letter and four raptor treats. In this guide, we are going to go over how to obtain all five of these items, as well as what the rewards are for completing the achievement.
Hastily Written Letter
The Hastily Written Letter is the first item that you will receive, given by Aksim in the Crystal Oasis.
This letter will be given after you complete the Sparking the Flame story instance, which is the first chapter for Path of Fire. Because of this, you will not need to go out of your way to obtain the Hastily Written Letter.
Raptor Treat From Priestess Karima
To receive the treat from Priestess Karima, all you need to do is complete the renown heart at the Marifa Refugee Camp. This is located on the southeast edge of Amnoon.
The following actions will count towards completing the renown heart here.
- Revive Refugee Farmworkers

Bring Supplies to Refugees
- Deliver food to hungry children
- Deliver water to thirsty workers
- Deliver medical supplies to hurt refugees
- Clear out Shaking Tents
- Threaten and defeat Zaishen Zealots
Once the renown heart is complete, you will be rewarded with the Raptor Treat from Priestess Karima.
Renown hearts in the Crystal Oasis reset every day. This means that if you have completed this heart before beginning the achievement, you will need to complete these tasks again. Fortunately, it shouldn't take too long.
Raptor Treat From Priest Hakim
Upon speaking with Priestess Karima at the Marifa Refugee Camp once more, she will ask you to deliver supplies to Priest Hakim in the Temple of Kormir.
You will have a two-minute time limit to deliver supplies to Priest Hakim at the temple. To do this, get on your raptor mount and make your way to the temple, which is shown on the map above.
It's important to know that you will not be able to teleport here if you already have the Waypoint. The supplies will disappear if you teleport, so you will need to use your mount.
If you make it to Priest Hakim within the time limit, he will reward you with a raptor treat.
Raptor Treat From Mayor Kabir
Next, you can receive the Raptor Treat from Mayor Kabir by completing the renown heart at the Destiny's Gorge Waypoint, located on the far right side of the Crystal Oasis. This can be done by doing the following actions.
- Kill Forged, Air Elementals, Earth Elementals, and Vampire Beast Crawlers
- Forge makeshift weapons and give them to Unarmed Villagers (or place them in a Weapon Crate)
- Demonstrate how to use these weapons
- Revive Villagers
- Pick up Forged Ammunition and throw it elsewhere
When this heart has been completed, Mayor Kabir will reward you with a raptor treat.
Cook Rehman's Famous Raptor Treat
Now, it's time to get the final raptor treat. To get this treat, you will need to have all the other treats first.
When you have the first three treats, head to Cook Rehman, who is standing near Priestess Karima at the Marifa Refugee Camp. Upon talking with Cook Rehman, he will tell you to hunt for some Choyas and get a Choya piece.
Choyas are pretty common on the map and can be found everywhere, so this shouldn't be too difficult. A great place to look for Choyas is Mekele Bluffs, which is located just north of Amnoon.
Once a Choya piece drops from a slain Choya, head back to Cook Rehman and you will be rewarded with the final raptor treat.
Rewards For Completing Reins Of The Raptor
As a reward for completing Reins of the Raptor, you will receive five achievement points, as well as one mastery point.
Additionally, you will get to keep the raptor treats that you obtained. These are consumable items that grant you 38,100 experience points, that will go towards any Path of Fire mastery track.
These treats can only be used if you are out of combat and on your raptor mount. There are other Achievements similar to Reins of the Raptor that will reward you with treats for the other obtainable mounts.
Once the achievement is complete, you will be able to purchase additional treats from Priestess Karima for 2,100 karma. It's important to remember that you will only be able to get the experience once a day, but you can consume more than one. Any additional treats eaten will not earn you experience, so it is better to save the treats until the following day.
