Games Workshop has teamed up with Perchang to breathe new life into its classic board game dungeon crawler Warhammer Quest.
Tabletop powerhouse Games Workshop originally released the tabletop game Warhammer Quest: Silver Tower in 2016. This was based upon the original Warhammer Quest that was discontinued in 1998. This was in turn based upon the much-loved retro-classics HeroQuest and Advanced HeroQuest. The original saw players take control of an intrepid explorer as they enter the Silver Tower in search of riches and glory. The tower is inhabited by the Gaunt Summoner of Tzeentch and his followers who roam the tower. Perchang is a small video game studio that previously worked with Games Workshop on 2019s Warhammer Quest 2: The End Times.
Like its board game brother, Warhammer Quest: Silver Tower moves the narrative from the cataclysmic End Times found in Warhammer Fantasy Battles and establishes itself firmly in the much-lauded Age of Sigmar. The mobile game is a faithful reproduction but, unlike the original, the team of adventurers is compiled and controlled by the player. The AI looks after everything else including the actions for the denizens of the tower. There are quests to complete, monsters to kill, and loot to… well, loot! Players can upgrade their party members' gear and level them up as they progress through the increasingly difficult tower.
You start the game with a limited number of characters but can add to the pool by spending summoning stones. These are quite difficult to earn and progress can be a bit slow. As you might guess, this is where Warhammer Quest: Silver Tower makes its money. This comes in the form of in-app purchases that primarily provide boosts for quicker progression and better gear, but summoning stones can also be bought. We feel the prices might be a bit on the high side, but the game can be fully played without spending a penny, just expect things to take longer.
